Why is my cr so loud?

For some reason my cr is really really loud i thought it was my motor as its as noisy in my xx4 but someone said omethign about pinion would there be any reason why this would make so much noise i havea kevlar spur on both cars and i use rw racing pinions Any ideas????

Try a standard spur to eliminate that.

DCM 16-11-2007 06:46 PM

don't run Losi...... sorry, is that not helpful?

I 2nd that ^

super__dan 16-11-2007 06:57 PM

Though billed as the better spur, most of the team drivers ran the plastic ones I found out from Cree when we were running XXX4's. Th kevlar is is defo louder.

DCM 16-11-2007 06:58 PM

it is because it is a hard material, which although may last longer, generates far more noise.

ashleyb4 16-11-2007 07:15 PM

lets get a std spur on there then.

ashleyb4 16-11-2007 07:26 PM

thanks btw where are my manners.

ryan 16-11-2007 07:34 PM

Had the same problem on my xxx4, it had a kevlar spur and was really noisy. Changed it to a plastic one and it was fine.

The kevlar spurgears make way more noice then plastic.
Also check how the gears look in the gear box.
When they go bad it becomes loud as hell.

ashleyb4 17-11-2007 12:23 PM

well i hope thy aint gone bad its all of a week old.

Cant say i have any problems with either spur gears on either of my cars..... How old are you pinions? They do actually wear out, also like someone mentioned, when was the last time you checked the layshaft and Idle gear? I tend to replace mine every 6 months.

Also, when you rebuild the gearbox, place a "small" amount of diff grease between the gears. Helps me.

Danny

ashleyb4 19-11-2007 04:02 PM

Well i didnt really buy all my pinions in a big bulk but ive steadly bought them over a few years as and when i need them but the one ive got on now is a few years old but ive hardly used it it was for my touring car which i hardly ever used so it hasnt had much wear at all. As for layshaft and idler gear there brand new the cars only had 1 meeting and one club night. A little odd. I may try a brushed motor and a plastic spur see if that is quieter then see if that solves it.

Thanks danny and everyone :)

Ash have you checked that the Pinion grub screw is not slightly catching the spur? as i mentioned to you last sunday @ Kiddy .
i had that on my S4 ??
i couldnt work out why it was loud and the messing was spot on ..

ashleyb4 19-11-2007 04:10 PM

nope i checked that.

A

Lee 19-11-2007 04:21 PM

Ash,

It might be just down to the resonant frequency?

Northy 19-11-2007 04:23 PM

Don't worry about it.

G

ashleyb4 19-11-2007 04:27 PM

Im not worried about it im embarsed by it lol. Its so so loud you cant hear anyone elses car just mine.

A

millzy 19-11-2007 04:32 PM

Dan Greenwood back in his days of being welsh had the loudest gear box at craig harris club ever. every week he would build it up in front of craig and every week it was freeking loud, worked fine so i dont think he worried about it.

ashleyb4 19-11-2007 04:46 PM

I know but im a fussy person and like things to be right and nice.

A

andy reeves 19-11-2007 06:09 PM

Ash

It didn't sound very load at Kiddy when i was watching, nothing other than the normal noises from the car or using brushless. If your at Cov this weekend then i can have a look and see if you need any help.

ashleyb4 19-11-2007 06:13 PM

yea i couldnt hear much at kiddy but i tried it indoor at oswestry and it was super loud. Not sure about coventry.

A

bigred5765 19-11-2007 09:20 PM

it's because you didnt built it right, hence the diff went bang and now its noisy , give it to someone who knows what there doing and pay them to do it right for you, our gearbox run for over 6 months, and didn't need jack doing to it

God you're right, I'd forgotten about that! Was it B2 or B3?

tyreman 19-11-2007 09:27 PM

The only time I have had a noisy gearbox, was with the BK2 because the kit idler (centre gear) gear was rubbish, once I changed that, it was nice and quiet.

I would look at that first, as I have never noticed a Kevlar spur gear to be as noisy as you are describing.

Bring it over on Sunday and I'll look at it for you.

As Danny also stated it could be your pinions, I had a few robinson racing pinions (silver ones), and they were noisy as hell, went back to my Trinity ones and it was quiet again.

If you do decide to change the spur/motor, do it one at a time, otherwise if the noise go's, you won't know which one was causing the problem (if at all).

Couldn't agree with you more G.

Also am I the only one that finds it a little disturbing, that so many grown men seem to take so much pleasure, out of constantly having a dig at Ashley the 16 year old child.

Northy 19-11-2007 09:37 PM

Yeah, I'm with you Brian, I've bit my tounge today......

Get off the kids back!

But im still very in experienced in this racing malarky but i have made myself a nice transponder mount for my cr which im very proud of i also have 9 others all machine cut so if anyone is interested let me know. You know those bits of plastic kids used to fit to their bikes so when it hit the spoke it made it sound like a motorbike? Did you try that??? ;)
