Heres a 'stiched up' picture of last years track, i really enjoyed the layout.. the tarpaulin is VERY good.. i'd go as far as saying it is better than wooden flooring.

picture was taken the night before so the mats were missed out.. ive added text saying where they were

Interested in doing this event, never raced indoors before. What tyres are best and also what sort of motor, normal 10T or something milder like a 12T or even a 19T?

ashleyb4 29-12-2006 05:56 PM

Tyres are normally schumacher mini pins (yellow)

And you can run any motor you like it is what you feel comfortable with less than what everyone else is running.

A;)

Rob 29-12-2006 06:27 PM

But what sort of motor is recommended for indoors? Never raced indoors before, don't know what the grip is like.

PaulRotheram 29-12-2006 08:52 PM

yo dude,

mini pins work well at most indoor venues, and are the faster tyre. Although it will be hard work on the tarpaulin with them. Mini spikes will work, but will be slower on the carpet, but will be slightly easier on the tarpaulin.. I reccomend yellow mini pins however.

Motors, a 12 turn is easily more than enough for the size of track, a 10 will work, but youl get the best out of a 12!

The carpet is quite high grip, and the tarpaulin is very low grip, a nice mixture all round!

A please would'nt go a miss :eh?:

But as said, all the track will be constructed on saturday before the event.

bald eagle 08-01-2007 04:24 PM

I am attending this event after a break from buggy racing for around 10-15 years :eh?: . I am really looking forward to it, all the different surfaces, jumps, and wow.. a wall of death  ! I am so excited I could....... well...... yes i could!.. lol.
Look forward to meeting some new people, and a very very steep learning curve! Bring it on! ;)

bald eagle 08-01-2007 04:26 PM

Are there any weight limits i need to be aware of, or any other little rules i need to know? :o

PaulRotheram 08-01-2007 09:43 PM

no scuitineering on the day, weight etc should be ok.

bald eagle 08-01-2007 11:19 PM

Thats great paul, Just one more thing, is there any catering on in the day, or is it a case of fetching ya own packed lunch....dairylea lunchables etc?...lol ;)

PaulRotheram 08-01-2007 11:21 PM

last year we had a lil snacks table, but I'm quite honestly not sure as it's the race directors wife who did it. But catering food as in hot food wont be avaliable.. so packed lunches are best.

bald eagle 08-01-2007 11:22 PM

Once again, many thanks paul, I appreciate it. :)

Chrislong 09-01-2007 08:56 AM

Looking forward to this.. I have been undecided between 2wd/4wd, think I'll do 2wd.

Is there mains sockets available?

bigchris 09-01-2007 11:30 AM

Chris ,
paul said to me on MSN that therte were no mains power , and no pit tables , which is a bummer for us as we need to lug 12v batteries and tables down from scotland , 3 of us in one car will be a squeeze

chris

Northy 09-01-2007 12:38 PM

Oh f**k, I don't have a 12 volt anymore :(

G

Chrislong 09-01-2007 02:40 PM

Oh bugger, I need mains for my stun-iron... my 12v iron is knackered.

ashleyb4 09-01-2007 02:43 PM

if its under 200 watts i have a power inverter from 12v to 230 v

A

Chrislong 09-01-2007 02:50 PM

Cheers Ash, but I guess that would soon drain the 12v :(

PaulRotheram 09-01-2007 06:50 PM

We have 240v sockets, but i'm not allowing power supplies as there are only one or two sockets, if everyone tries to charge, iron, discharge and everything else we do from two sockets and alot of 4-ways, it'l soon kill the circuit, and then the computer will go down with it.. can't be having that.

Removed 'other' posts from the thread, after the work i've done for the event I think advertising another meet on the same day is abit of an insult!

PaulRotheram 09-01-2007 06:59 PM

If any one is wanting to come to the GP, can they please contact me with their details please so we can get you pre booked in. We want to get racing started as soon as possible on sunday so there will be pleanty of chance for practise.

Please email entries with name, class, brca, ability and xtals to gotmilk(at)hotmail.co.uk

Spencer Mulcahy 09-01-2007 09:23 PM

What are the numbers looking like Paul

PaulRotheram 09-01-2007 10:01 PM

about 45ish pre booked at the moment, although there are quite a few who are coming who havn't pre booked (please get your entrys in :) ) Last year we had next to none pre booked, quite an achievement in under a year.

andy110m 09-01-2007 10:05 PM

No 240v, come on.

Hi Paul, sorry mate I'm really looking forward to this but no 240v, no Andy Cottom race. I'm a southport member as such believe we need to compete with other clubs, and as you know another well known club, thats well associated with this very site, is holding another event thats offering 240v and very high level of competition.

We'll have a few sockets, speak to Jim Spencer about the 12th Nationals. Crewe had 96 racers and 2 sockets. The current we draw is nothing at 240v. There is a calculation that can be done but I don't remember the formula fully.

Sorry Paul. Let me know whats happening.

PaulRotheram 09-01-2007 10:10 PM

Your choice, i've no problem at all :)

super__dan 09-01-2007 10:20 PM

5A @ 7.2V = 7.2/240 * 5 = 0.15A @ 240V

Obviously loads of losses and stuff but you should be able to run loads of chargers off a socket assuming all good connections etc. That said they managed to trip the plugs at Worksop this weekend.

A lot of people use more than just chargers though, soldering irons on full all the time etc will draw as much if not more power.

PaulRotheram 09-01-2007 10:29 PM

Thanks for the math, it's appreciated dan.

I'll be honest, people could use the mains, but i've personally not allowed them for the sake if people abuse them and have lots of 4 ways from minimal sockets. We have not tested the halls mains capabilitys to trip them off as the place we will be pitting we only pit in once a year (for the gp).

For the sake of bringing 12v's as most have them for outdoors, the meeting will run flawlessly.

It's shaping to be a good one, the wall of death will be constructed saturday, along with other obsticles that will be used.

andy110m 09-01-2007 10:39 PM

So what do you think based on that info Paul. 0.15 @ 240 = 200 chargers off one socket!!! I believe we have 3.

We have 80 racers max, some of which will have 12v.

I'd think its workable but like you say I have no problem going up the M62.

I also wouldn't have a problem driving a gold plated Rolls Royce, If I owned one. I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

PaulRotheram 09-01-2007 10:55 PM

Andy, as said, you can go to Batley if you wish, i've no problem - It's your choice to do what you please.

However if you would like to support your club, then feel free to do so. If you knew the rules, we do not actually permit mains at club meetings, how ever some exceptions are made as the people who wish to use them are club members who are generally there week in week out.

I'm not willing to discuss it any further, if you wish to do so you, or any one else can PM, email or even ring me about mains power. But as said, I'd wish for people to not use the mains and bring 12 volt batterys.
