Good estate to get for racing etc
Hello chaps,
Looking for recommendations for a decent estate that has reasonably good mpg, good all round perforamnce and a decent amount of space in the back. Any views you could share!! |
depends what you wana spend mate but the new shaped focus gets my vote, awesome mpg great on the motorway and very comfy
|
I've got a new shaped Focus and think its too small. I used to have an 08 Mazda 6 hatch and found it bigger and better, more comfy and wish I got another instead of the focus. The mazda 6 estate would be my vote if you think the hatch boot wouldn't suffice.
|
surley the mazda 6 is in the same group as a mondeo dont even see how you can compare them focus would be in the mazda 3 range
|
budget?
cheapies, the mondeo TDCi are good and roomy.
any estate will be better than a hatch etc, and a 7 seater/mpv better still depends what you want to spend. |
BMW 320D Touring. Any year, they are all good, though older shaped E46 cars prior to 2004/5 with the older M47 engine liked to ingest swirl flaps and kill turbos. This has been fixed though in later engines/models.
All depends on size you want and budget. I like BMW's and have got on well with them. Great fuel economy, fantastic performance, comfortable to drive long distances, and quality cars. They are always best in class in the ratings. |
VW Touran, TDi Sport. Does everything, 7 seats, goes well, 45-50mpg, seats lift out so you can use as a van.

Volvo V50! Not bad on fuel, comfy, quiet.... and pretty cheap!
Just bought one myself and very pleased with it.... |
I would go for the V50, i think it's the best looking estate.
|
I have a 55 cmax 2lt diesel. 42-50 mpg+ good power when you need it. Loads of room great comfortable drive, in 6 years I,ve owned it apart from wear and tear items only intercooler went £375
If you pit from the large boot then you can sit on the back at a good hieght for a table. |

I love mine. |
I bought a Jaguar X-type estate recently. 2.0D, 130bhp, returned 46 mpg on 600 mile round trip to the Area51 GP with 3 drivers and all their racing gear. It's much bigger thah you would think.
I've had it up to 53mpg average with no load/empty car. It's a reliable as any ford (basically is a Mondeo) or VAG estate. |
We have a 520d touring msport, great mpg, super comfy and sooo much room.
Wana buy it Jamie? Our van just blew up, so car got a go to get new van:( |
Car
Cheers fella's
All good info have actually been looking at the 3 series BMW and the Volvo V70 D5 - awkward I know but looking for enough space for 2 people comfortable with gear to drive across the country and enough speed/power to keep up with a VW scirocco sport 170bhp. (who drives like a nutter) J |

Funny enough Griff was thinking of you and your offer onkly think is the mileage you've done coming from where you do!
|
As a cheapish estate, I think the Mazda 6. A lot of estates have a lip on the boot floor whereas I would prefer no lip (as I also have to transport a racing bike around). Old Focus's don't have a lip but the newer models annoyingly do otherwise they're a nice car.

Skoda octavia vrs estate. Curently on run out and there are some brilliant offers on it. 170 bhp, 45 to the gallon and more reliable than a vw.
|
I have got a Ford Galaxy,4 of us go away in it and all our kit, gazebo 2 tables etc and good mpg, went silverstone before Xmas and cost us about 100 in diesel from redruth in Cornwall, mind you it's 1997 year and done over 310,000 miles
|
Peugeot 807 deisel
We can get huge amounts of kit as well as 6 of us in the car, great on fuel solid and reliable. Great bit of kit.
The 2.2L 6 speed is the one to get The 1.9 5speed is not as good on fuel. |

My company one I used to rag it and get 50+mpg all the time. My current one is an auto, so get a bit less, and I treat it better as I own it. The new sixth generation F31 (2012-on) looks amazing if you can get one on a good business lease or whatever. |
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
You could not not keep up in a Subaru you big girl!!!! Quote:

DEFENDER, DEFENDER, DEFENDER that is the only truck you will ever need, if you get a 130 you can get 12 people and racing gear in and pit on the roof, absolute winner

Bmw 528 petrol or 530 diesel, I get 32 mpg out of my 528 and that's doing a steady 80 mph everywhere and they don't cost the earth to repair and they don't cost a fortune to buy either, and there's a ton of room in the back

Throttle bodies filling up with gunk on diesels due to boost leaks, electric windows stop working, central locking develops a mind of its own, dropping cylinders on 6 and 8 pot models, poor starting on 4 pot diesels due to dodgy temp sensors etc etc..... Best VAG vehicles made in the last 10 years are the Caddy and Transporter. |

530d series bmw touring, loads of boot space plenty of poke, good mpg if driven gently, and rwd for sidewaysnesss also the batterys huge and in the boot for charging off
|
Having had a 5 series, I would definately recommend one. Comfy, quick ,and looks good. When it came to get a new car, I couldnt stretch to a 5 series, bought a 2.0 TDI Passat Estate, and it is a very good car.
