Default Good estate to get for racing etc

Hello chaps,

Looking for recommendations for a decent estate that has reasonably good mpg, good all round perforamnce and a decent amount of space in the back.

Any views you could share!!

I've got a new shaped Focus and think its too small. I used to have an 08 Mazda 6 hatch and found it bigger and better, more comfy and wish I got another instead of the focus. The mazda 6 estate would be my vote if you think the hatch boot wouldn't suffice.

Default budget?

cheapies, the mondeo TDCi are good and roomy.
any estate will be better than a hatch etc, and a 7 seater/mpv better still

depends what you want to spend.

BMW 320D Touring. Any year, they are all good, though older shaped E46 cars prior to 2004/5 with the older M47 engine liked to ingest swirl flaps and kill turbos. This has been fixed though in later engines/models.

All depends on size you want and budget. I like BMW's and have got on well with them. Great fuel economy, fantastic performance, comfortable to drive long distances, and quality cars. They are always best in class in the ratings.

VW Touran, TDi Sport. Does everything, 7 seats, goes well, 45-50mpg, seats lift out so you can use as a van.

James.

I have a 55 cmax 2lt diesel. 42-50 mpg+ good power when you need it. Loads of room great comfortable drive, in 6 years I,ve owned it apart from wear and tear items only intercooler went £375
If you pit from the large boot then you can sit on the back at a good hieght for a table.

I bought a Jaguar X-type estate recently. 2.0D, 130bhp, returned 46 mpg on 600 mile round trip to the Area51 GP with 3 drivers and all their racing gear. It's much bigger thah you would think.
I've had it up to 53mpg average with no load/empty car.
It's a reliable as any ford (basically is a Mondeo) or VAG estate.

Cheers fella's

All good info have actually been looking at the 3 series BMW and the Volvo V70 D5 - awkward I know but looking for enough space for 2 people comfortable with gear to drive across the country and enough speed/power to keep up with a VW scirocco sport 170bhp. (who drives like a nutter)

As a cheapish estate, I think the Mazda 6. A lot of estates have a lip on the boot floor whereas I would prefer no lip (as I also have to transport a racing bike around). Old Focus's don't have a lip but the newer models annoyingly do otherwise they're a nice car.

Skoda octavia vrs estate. Curently on run out and there are some brilliant offers on it. 170 bhp, 45 to the gallon and more reliable than a vw.

Default Peugeot 807 deisel

We can get huge amounts of kit as well as 6 of us in the car, great on fuel solid and reliable. Great bit of kit.

The 2.2L 6 speed is the one to get
The 1.9 5speed is not as good on fuel.
