I'll be stuck at Istanbul Airport for six hours between flights and I don't know how to pass the time. I used to think airports were just places to sit and wait, but I've heard that Istanbul Airport is a whole different kind of destination with lots of interesting things to see. Has anyone spent time there who can tell me what's really worth checking out besides just wandering in circles between coffee shops? I want to make the most of this time instead of sitting in a chair with my phone for six hours.
I'm also wondering if there's a spa or relaxation area where you can unwind after a long flight. Is it only for business-class passengers, or can other travelers access it for an additional fee? How much does it cost compared to a nearby hotel?
Six hours at IST isn’t enough. I once had eight hours there and still didn’t have time to see everything. If you want more details, there are all kinds of airport guides online, but I managed just fine without one. There’s an art gallery with rotating exhibitions by Turkish artists near the gates, as well as a huge duty-free shop where you can spend an hour browsing. Istanbul International Airport has a Turkish Airlines spa in the business class lounge. There are also paid lounges where you can get a shower, a sofa, and food for a nominal fee. I once booked a lounge for three hours, and it was the best decision I made. I got a good night’s sleep on a comfortable sofa and boarded my flight feeling like a new person. As for food, I recommend finding a restaurant serving Turkish cuisine in the central area. The food there is delicious.
