I’m debating whether to use pure RNG (Random Number Generation) or a "Pseudo-Random" system for my rogue-like’s loot drops. Pure RNG can lead to "bad luck streaks" where players get nothing useful for three runs in a row, which kills motivation. However, if the system is too predictable, the tension disappears. How do you balance the excitement of a random roll with the need for a fair, consistent player experience? Is there a middle ground that keeps the "gambler's rush" alive without frustrating the user?

Pseudo-random distribution is definitely the way to go for a better player experience. You can implement a "pity timer" that slightly increases the drop rate every time a player fails to find rare loot. This keeps the tension high but prevents extreme frustration. To stay familiar with how random systems feel from a user's perspective, I often play on https://savanna-wins.uk/. It’s a great way to experience that "anticipation" loop in a polished environment. In gamedev, your goal is to make the player feel lucky, even if you’re secretly nudging the numbers behind the scenes to keep them engaged!
