Default So, I did another Jeep thing recently

After years (decades) of dreaming and searching, I finally pulled the trigger!! The wait was worth it!

I had a few things to sell before I could do so, promised my wife I'd not add until I could reduce...well, I kinda reduced Sold a car, jetski, traded a SXS for a bike (takes up less room - ha - and is for sale) and some garage stuff - and did it.

Long story short, she kinda put her foot down on this one for a while, but one day at the cabin we got to talking and we agreed on a budget, and she knows I'm a good buy/sell guy, so she agreed. She also got tired of hearing me talk about it, and wanted nothing to do with it once I got it. I have a few buddies, including Nate, that were likely tired of me talking about it too!!!

Now, once that's set everyone knows I don't F around...I had already been searching, lost out on a few I really wanted cuz I had to wait, but was always ready for when the time was right...meantime, I had some super lowballs out there that didn't bite, so it went on.

She left for a week to see her dad in AZ over the 4th and I found one days earlier, dropped her of at the airport, drove down that night so I was closer to the seller, and grabbed it the very next morning

1951 Willys CJ3A/2A - 3A frame and drivetrain, 2A tub...no seatbelts!
28" DOT approved SXS tires on wagon wheels..rolls smooth.
Front disc brake conversion - stops nicely, I'll probably do the rear eventually.

Super clean absolutely rust free - and I didn't even dicker w/ the guy on price

Garage is squeezed tight!

I fit like a glove

I asked him what he'd consider and he gave me his price. I didn't want to risk losing this one, just I asked if he'd meet me half way between us if I paid him for fuel - even offered to buy lunch and beers, but he had to get going as he was leaving on vaca that night w/ his fam - and he agreed.

Anyway, it's clean, as you'll see in these pix - which is something I needed in order to not have to spend my entire freetime working on it, and my wife to at least be moderately OK w/ it. Needed to be relatively rust free, start and stop - but what I found was much better than that!!

Funny, I told her that I was buying it, she didn't respond to me for a full day!! Once she got home she walked out to the garage and said, "so tell me about this thing." She said it looked nice but still had zero interest.

A few days later I convinced her to go for a ride w/ me, she was skeptical, but after a good stretch of road w/ the wind blowing through our hair, she rather enjoyed it. By the time we were pulling into the neighborhood, she asked if it was something she could drive to work
Yes, she's only 4 miles from her office, so it'd be easy..and she LOVES a manual.

I put over 200 miles on it the weekend I got it, in pouring rain even - drove over to a buddy's place 2 hours away, then made a loop back to my place as they hit the road for the week in theirs (I had to work, BS story, I'll spare you).

Super stoked, was one of the most fun days I've had in a Jeep in almost 20 years...can't wait, going to hit EJS w/ it next spring!!!

Ordered personalized collector plates for it - I'll end up w/ one of two options -
GO DEVIL
JP CULT

I'll find out when they land in my mailbox - they were both available, but you have to give options, so we'll see which one they approve.

I tossed these on for the time being, they came off my Scrambler

I have some tinkering to do w/ the wiring - was recently upgraded to 12v and I'll need to adjust the harness some...planning orange canvas seats, a rollbar and a set of seatbelts, before EJS.

Until then, I'm just going to drive and enjoy!

That’s awesome B! Good thing you are short, last time I drove a flat fender, I had to put the windshield down because the top of the frame was right in my line of sight!

Your new ride is damn cool!

All the years of egging you on paid off

Found a good one. Can’t wait to see it at EJS for the 60th year!

I put a cloth wrapped speedway universal harness in mine when I went to 12 volt. Turned out really nice.

Flat fenders are super fun to just to run around in. Had a blast over the 4th wheelin around with my family. Reagan drove a bunch

Yeah, I kept telling you fukers I was getting one - I had a plan

I'll be looking at that harness, I like the one Pat put in, was cloth wrapped as well. I'll also be looking at a different starter and electronic ignition - this foot tapping starter is a PITA!!!

EJS 60th

Well, wasn't "asking price" per se - he did come down, I just didn't dicker any more from there

We went back and forth a bit, he had another guy on the hook that funds fell through - almost lost it, but in the end it worked out.

I've seen several others I would have pulled the trigger on since, but none as nice as this, especially for the money. Super happy I got a clean one - even with some tinkering to do, that's just par for the course.

Some guys I'd been dealing with offers on were just insane w/ their asking prices. And for what I wanted to do with it, as much as I didn't want a crusty one, I didn't want a show vehicle either. I'm going to pop this onto some trails, mostly dirt/gravel roads, but some legit Moab trails, etc...and I didn't want to be afraid to dent or scratch it - this one I can do it all

Still anxious to see what plates they will give me

Why didn't you choose to keep running the COBOUND collector plates?

Because they are on my Gladiator.

I thought maybe a different style plate, a collector vs car/truck, but only able to do that if it's a different style vehicle - truck/car vs motorcycle.

I had several I considered, but only a couple that were available or, in the end, fit well after final thought - so I just put those two as my choices and hope for the best.

In MN, plates go with the vehicle when sold, except if you choose to retain a personalized plate, which I've always done.

Well, they came in...I'm a bit torn...

“Why did you get GOD EVIL?”
- my son

Well, I guess that works, too
They are an IYKYK plate, I suppose

I can change them...we'll see how I feel after driving around w/ them a bit.

GO DVL
GO DEVL
JP CULT

Hmmmm......

They couldn't stick a dash in there?
VA DMV website gives us the ability to see what is available and order what you want. Of course a complaint to the DMV can get your tags pulled pretty fast.

Yeah, I talk to the DMV before I ordered them, do anytime I request something, and they tell me if it's available or not...then it's usually providing them w/ the "meaning" and my choices from there.

Correct, James, only 7 spaces available - so no dash would fit..and I really wanted the word DEVIL on my plates

I'm going w/ it...I mean, GOD EVIL and GO DEVIL are both pretty solid in my book - for now
