Thinking of getting a 22 and wondered what extra parts are required to make it competitive (mostly running on astro)

Hi matey,
From stock kit in mid motor for Astro i would get: 5 deg Castor blocks, Gurnell RC Tapered Pistons (see 'Nick's thread in Losi section) Black/Blue/Green front springs Pink Rear springs I always run 80g under LiPo weight and if it gets damp/wet then the 50G TLR rear weight kit, also if track is very bumpy i've found the rear weight to settle the car too. Would recommend Titanium turnbuckles, the kit ones do bend and can snap with hard knocks, but will be fine to get you started... they do take some punishment! I run and love the gear diff, found it a vast improvement, on Astro would start at 5K oil... if not then definitely upgrade balls in kit diff to ceramics as kit ones don't last long before needing replacing anyways! The Titanium threaded kingpins made the steering action smoother and you can adjust the slop/play with the nuts Titanium threaded outer rear hingepins do the same, you can adjust the play in rear hub which is a good thing. i run +1.5mm width rear hexes as it makes the car more stable in a straight line and gets rid of some of the turn in, the 22 has lots of steering compared to other 2WD's which will you'll notice on first run but soon get used to, can be dialled out if needed. would recommend fitting longer threaded ballstuds for camber links all round as the kit shorter threaded ones can pull out and damage the mounting holes on mouldings as they do. There is the Cream inner hinge pin bracket/weight which seems popular, a lot of people prefer HRC kit, i have one but prefer the stock 4 deg LRC mount. hope this helps, Mark ![]() |

Or you could get a durango dex210 and not really need to buy anything else
Can only really think of a couple of things like: rear tower and maybe front if you want it to match steering rack springs and maybe ball cups/studs later on if you have probs with them Losi people don't take this the wrong way just giving him options. I did find that with the 22 there is a longer list of things that are must haves or strongly recommended making it more expensive than I think a kit really should be. Other side 2nd hand kits are cheap and the 22 is a good car as well |

I never snaped a turnbuckle, and i had ugly chrashs ...

The only things I think you really need are some stiffer front springs if running on grass, astro or carpet.
The rest of the parts are more tuning to the track or driving style than must have's in my opinion. I do now run the HRC rear block and 5 degree front hubs, but don't feel they are an essential upgrade straight off. As for the diff, mine lasted longer with the kit items. I changed the balls to harder/ceramic ones and got new plates when it started to get crunchy, and with the harder balls the diff and thrust plates worn through in a meeting ![]()

![]() Its not written a lot here or other forums about it working fine without a lot of bling/upgrades, really nice to read. All you seem to read is gotta have this and that and it suddenly gets real expensive. |
