Hello there, ive been getting myself a 1993 Honda CR250R for a bit of fun and a project during the summer.

Can somebody tell me a good 2 stroke oil to use and what ratio of oil i need to use and best way to mix it ???

Im also looking for good online sites to buy plastics and graphics from and info for general maintenance !!!

Only problems ive noticed after a few quick rides is the suspension seems too soft and the kick start slips every now and again but other than that it goes like a rocket

Also, anybody know of any tracks or farm land i can take it for a ride around in the north east/county durham area ???

Don't take this the wrong way mate, but I'd trade it in for something newer.
I bought an old bike to get back into racing and ended up forking out loads on it. Never again.
As for plastics, best bet is probably polisport. Try online shops like ridemx they might be able to help you out. Oils, hmm, there are loads out there semi synthetic or fully synthetic. Best get in touch with the previous owner and ask what they used and mixed to what ratio. Then, buy that oil, measure out then mix into a gallon of petrol by shaking.

Mmmmmm the smell of castrol r ...is that oil still about? I did a season of karting quite a few years ago and didn't mind following the pack ( as was often the case) just for the pungent whiff of the stuff
As Griff has said moto x bikes can be an absolute money pit,from my experience anyway,be it wether they are old or fairly new
Just common sense really, if you do get another bike from a racer just make sure it's been kept up to good condition suspension & engine wise.

griff is right about trying to race a bike of this age, mx bikes get a thrashing from day one so an old bike like this will be past it's best.

If you fancy spending some dosh on it you could face it in the classic evo class perhaps.

On my 2 strokes I use Silkolene Pro comp 2 oil, 33:1 ratio so 165ml to 5l of fuel from memory.

I would ask what oil it's been run on and what ratio.

Before you ride it give it a good 10 mins to warm up and make sure the tops of both rads are warm before you head off onto the track.

A new plug will be worth putting in it too.

Its not really for racing its just for bashing about during the summer and looking for somewhere in the northeast area to ride it, also maybe make it look like a Jeremy Mcgrath replica............

Local Tracks for you mate would be

Hardwick Hall at Sedgefield - since the court battle with Durham Council they have removed all the man made jumps from the main MX track but should still ok to play around on i guess and only open so many Sundays a year again due to planning issues

South Tees MX at south bank boro - top practice track with some great table tops etc great for race practice open most weekends and Wednesday’s

PJMX just off the spine road at Blyth - as above great practice track but only open Sundays and the last sat of the month weather permitting

Also speak to Graham Charlton and Charlton Motorcycles in Stockton as he was working on opening a track of some sort in Hartlepool

Those would be your local places but there are many more great tracks if you are willing to travel a bit further away
