DSLR for RC Photos, what to look for ?

Hi guys and gals,
As the title says, what should I look for in a DSLR for taking photos of RC Cars ?

I've not had an SLR before and I'm going to get one this year with the main purpose being to take some pics of this years' races and meets (both on and off-road)

I'm looking at the beginner ones at the moment (Canon 450 and Nikon 40/60).

Any sites with good info on photography in general would be much appreciated too ! I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this sort of thing, only having taken pics of nights out with a compact or a phone camera so far.

www.talkphotography.co.uk is a site i would frequent quite a bit its pretty good lots of knowledgable individuals there.

Your best bet for a camera is either as you have picked out a nikon or a canon, when buying a new dslr you really are buying into a system. Both nikon and canon produce fantastic cameras and both have lots of varying lenses.

My biggest piece of advice is go to a shop and try out the different cameras, this will give you a feel for each of them as although the models are similar they do feel different and this will be the only real difference between systems.

As a Pentax shooter I'd usually bang my head in frustration at yet another new user automatically thinking only of Canon or Nikon when thinking DSLR, especially at entry level where high ISO performance and tracking AF are never going to be world class. Still, it shows the marketing men are doing there job pretty well I suppose.

However, in this case you're probably right to stick with those two brands as the lens availability is there both new and used. Make no mistake, ANY brand of modern DSLR can and will take great pictures but for sports specific use you ideally need a certain kind of lens and this is where Canon and Nikon's dominant market share pays off as they are around in both manufacturer and third party solutions.

As Mole rightly says, get yourself to a camera shop and test them out. They'll both do a decent job but one will almost certainly fit and feel better in your hands.
