right i no this is not probably the right place to put this but i dont know were else to put it but im trying to build myself a personal rostrum now i know how stupid this sounds but im in a wheelchair and cant get up on the rostrums, but at the same time i cannot expect all the clubs to build ramps and so forth.
so im going to take matters into my own hands and that way it solves the problems and arguments.but i need help in finding some of the parts i need as ive been looking on the net nd not really got any were so i was wondering if someone knew someone who had a freind etc etc etc u get my drift lol so here are the parts im looking for but asusual im looking for a gd price lol 1. scissor lift (doesnt have to be working as it will be stripped to be put on a trailer) 2. a cheap trailer (looking more for single axel as there cheaper and my dads car can handle the weight as when i put the lift and tha in it will obviously be havier) the rest of the bits i can get my hands on pretty easy, but if someone would like to volunteer some time to help me build this(preferably in south wales) when i have the parts it would be greatfully recived,as there is going to be obviously alot of lifting nd welding etc etc thanks for your time for reading this and any help you can provide[/QUOTE]

The problem with using a scissor lift is that you will have to get in it, could you not approched your local club and ask if there is money in the kitty to provide a wheel chair rostrum, or find a track local to yourself that has the facilities, at Ardent they have a purpose built rostrum for wheel chair users, it seems a shame you should have to go to the extremes of buying a trailer to transport your own personal rostrum, depending on what you race I'm sure most tracks that have an elevated section around the track that could be modified slightly to position yourself with a view of the circuit.

If you race indoors then a simple ramp and flat section would be fine to use ase usually the tracks dont go to far away and it dosnt have to be too big. (ramp and flat could be two different pieces which locate together for ease of storage and movement.
Outdoors however brings up other problems because the track usually goes a bit into the distance so the ramp would have to be longer/higher but once again im sure if made correctly you could have it so 1-2-3 parts all interlocks. However with careful design you could build a (for example) ramp which has 3 lengths of ramp which interlock to the max height for the longest tracks or it could be used with 1 piece and flat for shorter tracks |

This probally won't help, but a tail lift off a van/truck may be worth some thought, I know these things only lift 1.5m mostly but they are only chains & runners with a motor. Replace platform with a 3' square secure box, adjust the lift to 2.5m+, the whole thing leans backwards a bit so the weight is balanced.

Thanks guys for the help regarding the advice on this, the reason why I want to make my own rostrum is because I want to start doing the wrca championship nd other events and not all the vlubs can provide me a space to see the track, hence why I want to build my own so its not on the club to make something,as I have asked this of the clubs in the past and it just opened a whole can of worms. When we did the indoors all the welsh vlubs made a ramp for me and my freind who is also in a wheelchair so that I canr fault but for the outdoor series its alot harder nd alot of the clubs dnt have the money.
My idea was just to have a trailer with a scissor lift on it with a plate on top of the lift with a ramp on the trailer,so I would be pushed on to the plate strapped down nd then sent skywards lol, I am looking at a ramp system as was suggested but I dnt have the time to build tha yet coz summer series is just round the corner so need to build sumit quick but safe nd then once its built I can look at making the ramp system without being pressured for time. But a big thank u to u all for taking the time to give me ur ideas and advice, nd hopefully I will b putting the ideas to gd use once I got the time lol. Thanks again guys for the support J

Have the clubs thought about asking the local farms or farm equipment places about maybe getting a MANITOU lent to them for the day.
I know at the 1/8 worlds in the USA they used one with great success for a driver in a wheelchair, they just placed a pallet on the front and strapped him to that. Just a thought, not sure how the health and safety conscious would view this though. |
