Awesome collection and amazing photos.
Have been lucky in my time as a rallycross marshal to witness most of the Grp B machinery being used up close and in full flight. Rallying and Rallycross has never been the same without them. |

I fully agree that Group B and the old 2.0ltr Turbo WRC cars were the most spectactular cars ever used in rallying, but they also led to the biggest downturns in the sport. That's why, for me, the Group A era was the greatest era of all.

Good point - but for me Grp B was rallying / rallycross. Being stood at the back of the grid at Lydden with 10 Grp B rallycross cars putting out approx 800BHP each is something that leaves an impression on you

Which one? 3.0L, 3.6L, 2.3L BiTurbo?
There's 2 cars which stick in my mind from that era. Arild Martinsen had a 4x4 BMW M3 with an IMSA GTP engine. There's Youtube footage of it leaving the line at Brands Hatch and leaving a trail of rubber all the way to Paddock Hill Bend. Jarmo Lahteenmaki had an Audi S4 - supercharged and turbocharged. The noises that thing used to make were unbelievable lol!! |

Also recall a guy racing a Chevy Monza in rallycross. This guy was partially paralysed from a rally accident, so raced this car fitted with a 2 speed semi automatic drag race gearbox. Only car I've ever seen beat a 6R4 off the line ![]() |
