Why no Top Shaft Spacer on a MR ?

I've been stripping my g/box on my Rat in prep. to make it brushless proof & noticed when coming to re-assemble the slipper assembly, unlike my x2c there is no top shaft spacer between the bearing & slipper plate (part No. 125001120) on a Mad Rat, though i can't see any obvious difference in this area between either an x2c or a MR, therefore the slipper plate sits directly against the bearing

Is there a reason why this part cannot be fitted & why isn't there one there, lol ?

Might be handy to try one in there, maybe i'll bring the bits along sunday

do you mean it dose not say in the manual or not there when taking apart as this part fellout (on my mad monkey) without me noticing and destroyed my motor plate and slipper plate. just find out as i know the monkey & rat are almost the same

It certainly didn't fall out, there's just no reference of it in the manual, whereas my x2c manual does have it in.

It seems to be a mid motor thing...

The spacer is not on nor has it ever been on any of the original chassis.

The Madrat, Macnum...the silly dragsters, none have the spacer Dan.

I'd try one and see if it makes a difference, it's probably a design improvement made after the first chassis type

I would say it is a difference in the gear box design which means it needs the extra spacer.

Trust me you can't run an x2c/mad monkey without that spacer in there because as soon as you slightly tighten the slipper it binds up the gearbox. The gearbox screws for the madrat and the monkey are different length also, the ones on the rat are 2mm shorter.

I think the motorplate is spaced further away on the mid cars than they are on the rear mounted cars, and as the layshaft is the same on both cars the slipper plates go further into the gearbox housing on the mid motored cars than they do on the it needs the spacer to keep the slipper plate on the bearing. On the rear mounted cars the flat in the layshaft stops the slipper plate going in to far and so keeps it away from the bearing.

I guess it was cheaper to put a small spacer in there than to redesign a layshaft
