Default Replacement Electronic speed controller

Don't know much about RC cars but my sons Xmas present has failed and he's devastated about it.

The Hobby King HK-SENS-35A ESC burnt out as soon as I connected the battery and I don't want to buy a like for like replacement.

Looking for a suitable replacement to power the Turnigy XK3650 - 3050KV motor that is powered by Zippy 25C 4000 2 CELL 7.4V Lightmax LiPo.

It's on a 2.4 GHz transmitter if that makes any difference.
Ta,
M

I have no idea about either the ESC or motor, so this is probably redundant advice...

however, if as you say the ESC burnt out "as soon as I connected the battery" then this sounds more like you connected the + and - leads the wrong way round. This fries ESC's instantly, either that or there was a short in the esc itself (i.e. warranty will cover it)

double check your + and - leads to make sure you dont blow whatever new ESC you choose.

Sorry to hear your son's upset - you'll get it fixed soon Im sure.
What about travelling to one of the good model shops that are open tomorrow - MB Models and JE Spares are two just off the top of my head that are definately open tomorrow,
Take your car with you and they can test your new ESC right in the shop and advise on just the right one.

Good luck m8.

Hi, I noticed a very small spark as I pushed the leads into the battery and thought this to be strange as the car was switched off - I instantly checked the polarity and against my beter judgement I continued to push the leads in fully once I'd confirmed that the wires were OK. Have since been on YoyTube and there are several videos showing similar makes of ESC burning out without the motor etc being driven.
Regs,
M

This is fairly normal as the capacitors on the speedo pulls quite a bit of current when it's being plugged in.

if the car was purchased new then just take it back to shop with reciept, it could have had a faulty speedo in from new.

if it was secondhand, then obviously you cant get a replacement undert guarantee,

these are good and cheap:
