Servo dies

Hi guys.

Straight to it; In the middle of racing my servo just dies and goes back to centre position. The esc is still running without problem. When I turn the power off and on it works again.

This has happened to a lot of us with different servos and recievers.

For me it has only happened indoor. Ran the outdoor season flawless.

What the h**l is happening. It's a mystery to us.

I run the things in my signature and I tried with a capacitor on the reciever without any luck.

It may not be your problem, but I had a similar problem in the past with a metal-geared servo in my Tamiya TA-05.

In that case it was caused by static electricity building up in the plastic chassis and discharging through the servo. Tamiya even acknowledged the problem and KO came up with a solution involving a jump lead linking the motor mount to the front bulkhead.

If you can see an opportunity for static to build up in your cars (non-conductive materials rubbing against each other in motion), perhaps you can find a similar solution.

The static issue did not affect the TA-05 if a plastic gear servo was used, so perhaps try one of those.

Yes I've been thinking it could be static but ruled it out thinking it should have been a more common problem since almost everyone in Sweden run on the same type of carpet during the indoor season, and I guess the majority use metal gears.

But it have happened more often in my plastic chassi (B4.1) than in my alu chassi (DEX410).

I'll have a word with my "local electrician" at my club.

You might be on to something. We run on carpet and I guess rubber and carpet build up static. Last night it happened again to me and a mate and the problem only occured when we ran over the metal curbs which I guess is what initiates the discharge.
