Default Racing at Benfield school (fridays)

All,

Very poor turn out led to the racing having to be cancelled last week. Racing is definately on this week and we need to organise the AGM therefore please post or pm me with dates which suit you best within the next few weeks.

We would also like to hear from non members but racers non the less as to what they think may help to improve awareness and reasons why numbers are so low. Initially we had good numbers however they have steadily dropped off and within December averaged 4 per meeting which means we are running at a loss.

Appreciated your comments feedback whether this be by pm or by posting on this thread.

My concerns are the club will fold in time if numbers don't pick up.

Regards

Ross

I've heard that it's a bit small however that won't be the reason why your numbers are low. Friday night is the problem. If you made it Tuesday/wednesday night I reckon you would get 15/20 every week. Jarrow club used to run on a Tuesday night which broke the working week up and was very well attended!
I can appreciate that running on a Friday may mean cheaPer rates due to not as many football bookings etc but midweek racing is your best option for the north east lads and the extra cost might be covered with the extra drivers that turn up!
Just my opinion!

chris you keep saying that midweek racing is the way to go.
if that's the case why don't you race at longbenton who race on a thursday night
what about my son who has just started racing he can't race on a midweek night.
what do you think we should do about him and other kids who can't race midweek?
now york club have ran there club nights on a Saturday for as long as i can remember and they have plenty of club members.
it doesn't matter which day you choose it will be a problem for some people.
if people want to race they have to they have to fit in with the club.
i think friday is fine and apart from work we should be there as often as possible.

Hi All,

Benfield club has now had its AGM last Friday the 28th Jan.

We have committed stay the same and keep racing on a Friday night from 6.30 till 10.30 for another year. ( Benfield is a good central location in Newcastle, we have a good relationship with the school thurs racing is on week after week)

Race fee's are £5 . but there has been a drop in membership fee's from £10 to £5.
For your membership fee you will have the ability to buy tyres at a reduced cost and have a vote at the all important AGM to name a few things.

We did take on board and discuss all views on moving the venue and the night, but I have to say you cant please all the people all of the time.
If we did move to a bigger hall it would cost more rent and if the racers did not turn up week in week out to support this then the unthinkable thing would happen the club would go bust. it was simply to big of a risk at this point.

I think it is fair to say that all clubs in the area have been struggling for the number of racers they would like to see at there clubs.

PLEASE DO COME ALONG AND RACE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Support the club in any way you can. We can then look at finding a bigger hall and growing the club. its all down to you guys.......

We are looking forward to a good years racing this year and are keen to grow the club's membership base and attracting new racers. we are going to invest in new rostrum and improved track.

SEE YOU ALL SOON.

Default Tyres

Hey Chris
I have always used mini spikes, I would say they were the popular choice last time I raced , a few do use full spikes and have seen mini pins used too ! It was before crimbo I raced there but they is usually more slippery than carpet .

You don't want weekend racing so you've 6 choices.

1) Race at Longbenton on a Thursday as Mr Clarke said.

2) Race on a friday night so you've got the whole weekend to yourself.

3) Complain about EVERY clubs openning hours in the northeast and attend none of them because none of them suit you.

4) Sit on your backside and watch every club fold because people like you can't be arsed to make an effort.

6) Start your own club during the week using your own money and charge £20 per person because everywhere is privately owned. That is basically what would have to happen to run a club on the days you want.

If you want midweek racing it's there on Thursday for ya which fits all of your requested criteria.

Chris maybe you can find a low cost community centre on a "scumbag council estate" as you call them?

It is a friendly club and even though it's not the biggest hall it's really good.

Default Benfield School

I agree with Chis and David it's a friendly club. The hall is small, I assume the amount of carpet is what people are prepared to put out. I enjoy going.

A fun 2-3 hours playing with toy cars on a friday!! Go along you'll enjoy it.

David Knock it off... If you've got a problem with someone then take it up with them one to one and stop posting rubbish on open forums.

I'll probably do the Nationals next year when the child is less of a handful but definately not this year. Doing regionals only this year now it looks like they'll be going ahead.

No more arguing from now on some people aren't worth the time, effort and space on a web page.
