Question Tekin RS Pro & 6.5 Redline

I think I remember reading when the DEX410 1st came out the racers were having trouble with the Tekin RS ESC's in the buggys overheating. Is this correct? I already have a new RS Pro & Redline 6.5 sitting in the cupboard and was wanting to run it if I get the DEX410.

This is what I run as well. I've installed a fan in there to help out the airflow and I've not had any issues.

I have the same combination, but not heat problem at the moment, because it is so cold outside....
I hope that i don't need a fan

Same set up I have in my Durango.

V212 software
Default start and end rpm
80% limiter
Throttle profile 3

23T pinion

I do have a fan blowing at the solder posts but could possibly do without it.

Thanks for alll your fast replies. I gather you require the Hotwire to update it to the latest software? I only bought it 4 weeks ago but assuming it still may have the older software installed on it from factory.

Yep, get the hotwire, its a worthy investment and releases more setup options than the button setup on the speedo alone

My Tekin never had any problems. With the standard factory software it was touch and go if I'd last 5 minutes with my 5.5 on a 20t pinion if I did practice laps.

New software installed and I race in a tight hall with lots of heavey acceleration and breaking I only get 4-5 LEDs max. I can even have as many practice laps as I want now.

I couldn't recommend the hotwire enough.

The Tekin is now by far the best speedo on the market.

I'm fairly sure the software that the speedos ship with from the factory is quite old and can't recommend the latest version v212 highly enough.

If someone wants their speedo updating, and doesn't have a hotwire then feel free to come and find me at an event I'm at and I'll do it for you.

Right-o, thanks for your help. DEX is in the mail and should hopefully arrive next week. Just ordered the hotwire aswell as some flightpower lipos. Do most run around a 21t pinion with a 6.5r?

Well, even if Tekin start supporting Mac users, that's a welcome offer.

I dont know if i posted in the corect thread but Mod, if you think this posting is incorrectly posted please move it to the appropriate thread.

here it goes,

i have a RS Pro 8.5T (not tekin 8.5T), 19T pinion, and a 5200 MAH 45C IP Lipo Batt. Settings is similar to the above via Hotwire 212 software.

my question, when i run my 410 (Just bashing) around 5-7 minutes runing, i noticed that my battery is a bit warm as compared before (when i was still using a different battery on a different car (B44). its not hot but its a bit warm, unlike when i was using my Venom 6000Mah 30C on a B44, same setup but the battery seldoms get warm. and like im running 30-45 run time.

is it me or there is something wrong with my settings. I have a fan sandwich in beetween the motor and poles, the ESC is not running hot but only the Motor (tolerance range). Im just a bit worried that my batt might end up having a short life span if i continue this.

my motor is just a HW 8.5T. Already geared down from a 21T to 19T pinion but the temp still the same. I dont have a temp gun but the temp is like holding a good old day Nicad right after ever run. And im not used to that.

Or may be i just squeze out the juice while bashing as compared to running it on track? i will try to Run the car this weekend and check.

any ideas are welcome.

thanks in advance.

Pinion sounds a bit small. If 21-23 is what many are using for a 6.5 motor, you should be using 23 as a minimum for an 8.5.

I would be starting off with a 25/26t pinion on an 8.5 and check temperatures after 5 mins. 19t is wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy to low.
