Neebie needs advice

Hey everyone!

I used to race 1/10 off road 10 years ago but due to work and stuff I had to give up. The last car I owned was a Cat 2000 EC. I only raced it for fun. I now have no gear at all as it was sold.
I've now been out the loop for a while but want to get back into racing again in a big way and race in regionals.
After searching on the net and this excellent site I'm wondering what to do.
Start with a 4wd kit as this is what I used to drive, or a 2wd kit as its easier to maintain. My nearest track Stotfold.
Can someone please advise me.

Hi Mike,

I would say you are best off getting a 2WD initially. B4 RS is a great 'Ready to Run' option, also you can upgrade the electrics as and when you want to, the actual car is the same geometry as the very successful B4.

Just to re-iterate what Chris said really i'd highly recommend 2wd to start with as it's so much cheaper and easier to maintain.

If you go along to Stotfold i'm sure the regulars will be happy to show you the current gear and what cars are available but again as Chris said you can't really go wrong with the Associated B4......

If you have a budget in mind it would be easier but there are a lot of good cars available 2nd hand so always worth checking the classifieds here or looking on Ebay!

I started racing again this year after 13 years or so out. Like you I had to decide whether to go 4wd which was what i always used to race or start off again with 2wd. I went for a b4 and am glad I did.

There are alos othercars to consider the losi xxx-cr has just won the national championship. its meant to be easier to drive than the b4 ive decided to change from the b4 tothe CR this year but again there isnt muct to choose between either there both very quick cars and its personal preffernce really.

I would go with a B-4. I cahnged from the B-4 to the CR at the beginning of last year, it started out really good, I really liked the car, but then it seemed to go bad and was never good again. I have heard some people say the chasis may have wekened, but who knows?????

Glad I got my S-2 now so I dont have to make these decisions

Thanks guys for the great advice, I'm thinking along the lines of getting a B4 and then converting it to an X-6. I'd have 2wd but with similiar characteristics as a 4wd. What do you think?
Do I need to purchase a full B4 kit or can I get by with buyings the spares for the B4 to fit on the X-6 conversion? Also, whats better for the X-6? The B4 Comp or the B4 Factory team?

It's entirely up to you, but the one thing i'd say is that the B4 is very common so spares are easily obtained at any race meeting even if there's no shops.....

Other thing to think about is that there are so many B4's about that Set-ups are easy to come by and the car is very easy to get right.

I think they're getting there with the X-6 but it's still quite new and may be a bit "specialist" if you know what i mean, but again they're going well now and getting some good results.

I would imagine it'd be easier to buy a good 2nd hand B4 and at least try it to see how you find it, then it's just a case of converting it to the X-6 - at least that way if you don't like it you've still got the B4 bits to put back on?

Hi Mike,

Have you been down to have a look at stotfold recently? If not its worth coming down to have a chat with the club members and see what people are running and what you like the look of.

The advice posted already says it all really so its just down to what you like the look of now. The CR and B4 are both great cars and will be more than enough for you to get back into it.

I'm down there fairly regularly so come and have a chat if you have any questions. Its a friendly club so there are plenty of people on hand to help. John from Model Images (The Raceplace) is usually there so he has a good range of spares/tyres at meetings.
