The last time i ran my ZX5 FS, I broke one of my rear suspension arms. (never broke one before, in almost 2 years of running zx5's or rb5's!)
Anyway, I've got a question. The arms on my car have 3 holes on either side of the arm, but when check the exploded view for a reference/part number, I see there is only 2 holes. I have some arms that are similar to those, (not 100% sure if they are for fs/sp) but the width is a couple of mm narrower than the one already on my car. Any one know if the arms are supposed to be the 3 hole versions I have on my car, or the 2 hole version in the exploded view? And, does anyone know the part number for the 3 hole type? Sorry for rambling on! First pic is the longer, 3 hole arm. Third pic is the shorter, 2 hole version. (Ignore the shoe goo holding in the pin... I need to replace the screw, too.:P) |

Ok..
LA243 are the original mid arm.. which you bought or got with the first " worlds kit " upgrade on the RB5 these had 3 holes for shock mounting I think these came original with the ZX5??? so you got one rear arm and one lazer front arm. UM521 was the mid arm for the RB5 came with RB5SP same as above but with only 2 holes for shock.. the 3rd hole is the one nearest the hub.. on this you got a rear arm and an RB5 front arm. UM521-1 That came with the RB5SP2 and the UMW517 upgrade kit which including the motor spacing option etc.. this only has one hole in the wishbone for mounting the shock, this hole is situated inbetween the 2 holes on the above wishbone.. LA272 this is the newest out and this has the same arm as UM521 with 2 holes but comes with a LAZER SP/FS/FS2 front wishbone.. LA255 is the standard arm that came with the FS kit i think, slightly shorter but in the pack you get a lazer front arm for SP/FS.. I think this is all right...?? Hope this helps.. When I bought the car off of an acquaintance, two of those 3 hole arms were the ones that were on it. (The only reason I had mismatched arms in the photo was because I was in a bit of pinch, and had to make it through the day with what I had handy) Yes, as it turns out, those were most likely arms first 'vanilla' ZX5. They were both definitely rear arms, because both of the arms have the little grooves molded into them so the outdrives don't rub. I was going to buy some arms while at the hobby store, but I am sure I must have a correct pair in my bag o' ZX5 parts. Thanks again for the post, Nick. Very informative. ![]() |

The LA243 arm was from the "mid-rear conversion" not the stock ZX5. The original LA220 ZX5 rear arm is the longest of all (2mm more than a ZX5-SP/FS / RB5 rear arm).
The original RB5 / ZX5-SP/FS rear arm is the shortest, part # UM503 with RB5 front arm and LA255 as Nick said with ZX5-SP/FS front arm. Add in about 2 million driveshaft and shock shaft combinations, stir and serve up a perfect helping of confusion ![]() PS:- get rid of those 3 hole hubs, they split along the hole lines (or perferations as I call them) like tearing sheets out of a cheque book ... which you will need if you keep running them ![]() |
