off-road buggy foams pre-cut and trued!!!

Just had a call from Kyosho, they have found a company overseas that can supply pre-cut foams for buggies in a range of compounds
All you need to do is mount them to your rims!
At £24.99 a set of 4, anyone interested?

A. That's quite expensive compared to doughnut's from rc-direct.

B. Its mounting them thats the most difficult bit.

I'd happily pay £24.99 or more if they were pre-mounted.

Never had to cut anything off them.

We currently use 8th rear doughnuts, but to be honest, at £25 for a set, I would expect them on wheels and trued down to a nominal diameter.

This thread is about foam tyres (as used for carpet and tarmac racing), not foam inserts for rubber tyres.

I've been running foams for years, starting back when on-road racing involved buggies with foam tyres... is history trying to repeat itself? They're great for tarmac racing, but only if they come trued and glued onto wheels. Otherwise it's more effort than most people will want to go to. Even if a donut is advertised as 'trued', once you've glued it onto a wheel it will still need truing some more.

I remember the joy most on-road racers had when decent rubber tyres came out for touring cars and ended truing, gluing, chunking and constant ride height adjustments as the tyres wear out.

I thought it was worth looking into these as they will be perfect for Tarmac and indoors on tarmac.

I dont know if price is expensive or not i will do some more research and find out about getting them on rims too.

I can make a set of foams, on new rims for £22.50, so a set of foams alone for £24 is not gonna happen in my books.

bear in mind a full set of 10th onroad can be bought for under £18 gt which are wider £21 and 8th for £23 as an average mounted on wheels ans ready to go ( bar we true em down a bit 1st)

we sell 200mm on rims for £7.50 a pair and 1/8th £12.50

I would not bother Neil, off road and foams are a huge IMHO

They "used" to be good years ago when we ran buggies on "flat" tracks, but the trouble with the buggies is they utilise too much chassis roll to generate grip which leads to the foams wearing out (and out of shape) very quickly, and of course the risk of "chunking" is far greater too. If you were intending running buggies on the flat with no jumps then maybe, but with the "off road" idaes that are being spoke about just stick to a good old rubber tyre that will work, there are plenty to choose from that wont cost the earth and will last longer (or even old worn outdoor tyres as Alec already suggested....)
