Hi all,
I'm interested in what all you guys use as control tyre(s) in your country for national races. Also if it is 1 choice per track, or 1 (or several) choices for a complete season. Looking for rules in France, Germany, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy, ... Also please tell me if you're happy with your rules, what could be improved, is tyre availability any good, etc... Cheers wouter ps: talking about 1/10th offroad electric |

BRCA Control Tyres:
The 2010 National Championship permits only two types of tyre for the rear axle at each venue. Compound and quantity used is not restricted. Front tyres are a free choice. The permitted rear tyres at all venues in the 2010 BRCA Off-Road National Championship are :- Schumacher Mini-Spike (Original & Mk.2) and Ballistic Buggy Mini-Spike. As for compounds I'm sure one of the national drivers will respond

Thanks, especially interested in other countries too, even more if you have both dirt and astro tracks to race on.

As a general rule of thumb the majority of drivers, whether on a grass or astro track, use Schuey mini spikes in yellow compound in the dry and Ballistic Greens in the wet.

Yes I know :-)
Reason for asking is in fact cause we want to maybe change our control tyres in belgium. But therefore I'm looking for other countries (with dirt tracks also). Especially interested in dirt tyre, would be best to choose a tyre that is used in other countries too, regarding availability this is better than something exotic. |

Non here, no need. Everyone uses minipins anyway. For dirt I'd go for the new(ish) holeshot 2.0 since its what they use at the Euros. Supply should be good.

We used to use the ballisitic buggy minipin at Tiverton (hard packed dirt) but this tyre was only good when it was warm and hard, if it was cold or loose we would run proline step pin.
The ballistic buggy spike was actually ok on the loose stuff at tiverton but not to great on the hard packed bits. We tried many times to find something that was not the "exotic" hard to get tyres but always ended up back with them. In the UK Nationals Tiverton would always have it's own control tyres (PL step pin, BB minipin) even when the entire rest of the series ran Schumacher minispike and ballistic spike. |

For the Italian National we generally have 1 tyre choice per track and only two set of them are allowed for each race; but this only for the rear axle of the car, the front tyres are not restricted in both 2wd and 4wd classes.
Usually the tyre brand and the patter is chosed among the one we know it works on that particular track (and obviously that can be easily available). For example this year we used (and still use) the Schumacher Mini Pins yellow for the indoor National and the Losi Big Shot Red for the outdoor ones. Bye Ema |

In Belgium we have schum spikes for astro, and bigshot for dirt. But we are not happy with bigshots anymore, as the quality is really bad the last 2 years. New tyres look like the pins are already worn. Sometimes you get a new tyre with +-20 pins missing... There are even pretty big grip differences between different sets of tyres. On top of that, availability isn't great either.
Thanks for all info so far, keep it coming :-) (france, germany!) |

In France, our control tyres are :
Grass : 2wd rear and 4wd : Mini Spike Schumacher Astro and indoor (carpet and tartan) : 2wd rear and 4wd : Minipin Schumacher Dirt : 2wd rear : Bow Tie PL 4wd : Ifmar stud TL Don't know about trucks, sorry. Compound is not controlled. The club decides which kind of tyres you have to run. If a grass track becomes a dirt track, you can't switch to dirt tyres. There is a rumour saying that Proline has stopped production of the 1/10th Bow Ties. Dunno if it's true but we would be forced to change. I would really like to see the same tyres for both 2wd and 4wd rears. I also don't really like our current choice of dirt tyres. Bow Ties are at their best only 1 or 2 runs, and Ifmar Studs are inconsistent and really hard on the track surface.

Not a rumour, bowtie isn't listed on their site anymore. For the euro's they make a new batch...
Do you like the bowties? I really find it a horrible tyre. Grip isn't great, ribs on the sidewall make it difficult to glue, inside webbing eats inserts,... |

Bowties also don't have much lateral grip, something useful on 2wds... ![]()

after running PL suburbs, bow ties and holeshots along with losi taper pins, and bk bars the best tire around is without a doubt the holeshot 2.0 you get up to 8 weeks of runs (3 heats and a final) from them the holeshot 1.0 was better when twisty but the 2.0 wasn't that far away

Any experience with PL Caliber? Or any of the Jconcepts tyres?
We also prefer a tyre with a decent pattern, cause clay tracks in belgium/holland rarely have blue groove ![]() Tyres like X2000 and bkbars don't really work on the looser stuff. Holeshot 1.0 also has it's pins really close to each other. |

anyway you asked for control tyres per country: Slovakia - no control tyres Austria - Holeshots for 4wd and Bowties for 2wd, as long as I know they've bought large batch of them for euros and their nationals.

In Denmark we dont have any rules of tyres..
You are allowed to use whatever and just as many tires as you want. We only have carpet tracks at the moment and mini-pin is the prefered tyre. But even back when we had dirt the tyres was free, and it works really well. usually people use one sets of tires per race.

Sweden
The organising Club sets the Control tire if there is to be a control tire at the race which is also up to the Club Maximum 3 pairs for each driven axle for qualifying and then 1 extra pair for finals The problem with our rules is that there isn't always a good supply of tyres before the races as rhe club can announce the control tyre just weeks before the race, I would personally see 2 types of tyres maybe 3 to choose from over the season that would make it much easier both for racers and suppliers
