I`m wondering if anyone has a good trick to take apart the diff gear?
ive recently taken apart my diffs, and the gear that sits on the outdrive was very difficult to release from the outdrive, is it a tricky way to do this or is it me that is just being stupid? ![]()

I use a pair of sharp tweezers of which I bend the last half mm 90 degree inwards. Pulling equally at both sides is the key. With this tool grabbing the inner circle between two teeth at each side is possible too.

I used the first method for mine, as I really had to force mine onto the outdrive so that they seated properly.
Just be careful not to wreck the eclips if you don't have any spare. After they were rebuilt, they went back onto the outdrive much easier with out any force-age. ![]() |

Found an easy way to do this, i took my air compressor and air gun, and blew compressed air into the diff house, the gear lifted up and was much easier to take out using a small plier

use motor/nitro spray, fill the diff case and leave for a few mins, then turn the diff case over and tap it on the flat surface and the crown gear should fall out easy enough.
I find myself rebuilding my diffs more and more recently, but there is always alot of play on the outdrives, even after changing the x-rings and shimming correctly. The only think I haven't tried replacing yet are the out drives themselves, my rear diff outdrives appear to have a fair amount of wear.

Interesting.
My diff cases wear before the outdrives. I replace them when I have an increase in side-to-side play at the outdrive. Cheap, and easy, maintenance.
