Reeto, Im going to be organising an endurance race after the summer seasons have finished but its going to be a race with a twist.
Its going to be a team event with a minimum of 3 drivers per team. You will be supplied with a brand new engine, pipe, glow plugs and 2 gallons of fuel. You will use your own 1/8th rallyx chassis (ANY) and there will be 1 chassis per team. The winner will be the team with the most amount of laps when their fuel runs out or maximum time limit is reached (probably 7 hours) the track, engines, fuel have yet to be decided. But I have distributers, and shops ready to sponsor the event. There will be prizes, charity raffles etc. And the engines will remain the property of the team (you get to keep them!) So what do you guys think?? Would you be interested?? Do you have any ideas?? |

Sounds like a good idea but I guess it will depend on what the entry fee will be as well.

This will depend on engine cost from supplier, etc etc but im going to make it as good value for money as possible. With around 6 hours constant tracktime. I already have 4 tracks queueing up to host the event, A possible engine supplier, 2 shops keen to support it, and thats in 12 hrs???

Sounds good Kev, but the one drawback I can see having just the one chassis is the 3 drivers of a team will have to share a radio. What happens if you have a mixture of wheel and stick transmitters on the same team, not necessarily using the same 2.4ghz system (spektrum, KO, Futaba), or the proper old fasioned like me and still prefer to use 40mhz?

That is down to the team to decide, i can do sticks or wheel, im faster with wheel like. but I can do both. But the way your team gets around this issue will help your strategy to win. You also need to realise your tranny batteries arent gonna last the race, and your rx packs definately wont!! so aswell as fuel stops, youve got battery stops too.
I now have 2 tracks that will definately hold the event, and 2 more that want to hold it and I still need to speak to another. A comittee has been assembled and we will hold a meeting next week to decide the venue, and then we can speak to the possible engine suppliers to get the deals in place. From the feedback Ive had on Maxbashing, and the positive comments on here, this is going to be a winner. I can see were going to have to turn people away from this!! |

On that pretence Kev, why not set up an endurance series and have teams submitted from each club. Something like Le Mans, where Audi, Peugeot and Aston will submit multiple teams. Maybe a little more like the US version where there will be more than one round, this will also encourage teams to look after their engine (like moto GP and F1 have become in recent years). You could have various points standings too, like most laps per team (obviously), most laps per driver, maybe an unofficial constructors table too. I think the last one would be very interesting I feel, as were not used to seeing cars run for more than 30 minutes say, and you might get to see if some chassis deal with it better than others.

Those are fantastic ideas Paul and definately something to take on board for the future. I love the idea of each club entering a team, and manufacturers championships!! This will defo be incorporated at some point.
I think for the time being we should see how the first one goes, and I would love to incorporate something like your ideas in a mini series!! |
