In our opinion, with most of the cheap combos yu egt what you pay for - "cheap". Dont get me wrong some are OK and indeed perform VERY well for the money, but often reliability can be somewhat lower than you woulkd hope for.

Although more expensive than some of the "bargain basement" combos we have found the best all roun dpackage to be the Castle Mamba Max Pro combined with either a Trinity or EPIC motor, you combine the best possible perfomance (up there with the best brands in the world) but without the price tag. In fact a Motor and Speedo combo from Castle and Trinity/EPIC is less than what most companies charge for a top of the range ESC alone, coming it at around the £185 for the pair

I've just bought an Xerun 8.5 system for under £100 on ebay. Fancied the xerun because I wanted something sensored, rather than the unsensored Ez.

Why is that? Is it just because they're smoother, or is it reliability?

Just get an Ezrun job done. Runs almost cold fast as you could want 5.5-8.5 £67.00 just do it.

i have been offered an ezrun 5.5 combo (untested) for £25 "IF IT WORKS" if not then its FOC its from a guy at my track but he said it developed an intermitent fault because of a rather sludgy day at the begining of the year.
will it be ok to pair another motor to the esc to see if its the esc that doesnt work or the motor?

Thanks Mike

Yes, but it will depend on the motor. Some sensored motors seem to cog really badly on Ezruns. Losi motors (the 6.5t) seem to work ok with them.

A 'sludgy' day should't have killed an Ezrun though. Sensorless motors are in essence waterproof (nothing for water to damage) and the esc is 'Splashproof' which in practice means ok as long as you don't go underwater!

we were caravan racing so he thinks the load may have damaged it in some way but is unsure if it will be the esc or motor. as his caravan filled with mud, however he has said if it doesnt work he wont charge me for it. if its just a case of getting a new motor/esc then i will have saved some doller,if it works fine then i will have got it for half the retail price so as far as i see it its win win.

Default EZ RUN

I run the 60amp speedo in both my 2wd and 4wd very good no problems. I recently got the version2 EZRUN from ebay seller electronic668888 and the esc arrived in 4 days. Seems like a good seller and cheap at 33.49 buy it now and post free.
Can't knock them I have no problems with them running various types of motor. I have got the 5.5 Mtroniks P2 sensorless motor in my cat.
I have just put a sensored 6.5 LRP X11 in my x6. Ran on 21/ 81 gearing, ran it at Southport Tuesday evening for 22 minutes continuous use no thermal probs. Seemed quick, will race with it on Sunday.
I think it will be fine.
