Default Track status

Hi All,

I write this in advance of actually speaking to Steve and Dianne but I know a couple of peolpe were down yesterday going to brave the weather and apparently the track will defo need some work ahead of the regional.

A lot of this should be simple enough but the grass is HUGE apparently so a work party day will have to be organised at some point. I'm hoping we can do this anyway for some wednesday night racing like last year which was really good fun but let's see how it goes.

FYI the rostrum rebuild is going ahead behind the scenes. Jim Dixon is working really hard on it and is hoping to have it together for the regional but due to work and family commitments this is not definite. Fingers crossed though and if Jim's been doing this work at home in his own time hopefully we can do our best to make the track up to the same standard. As I say, not that I've seen it but hopefullt the same kind of thing as the start of the year when we tidied up the track will bring it back to good condition!

Dan

Dan, have you spoken to Jim? He was down yesterday.

Now, I know a little about grass If its as long as Jim says it is it needs a cut but then NOT raced on, it will be all yellow and dead in the bottom. Ideally it wants a good cut, let it get a bit of sun (!!) and rain (easy) and cut it again before racing. Otherwise I think it will be badly damaged.

I was there. Probably looked worse than it actually is, although G is right about getting the grass cut on a regular basis (my hayfever means i'll be staying well clear )

What worrys me more is the fact that only 4 of us turned up when the forecast was reasonable. Doesn't bode well for the future does it ?

My missus has just driven past the track and reckons 3/4 of the cabin/rostrum is under water and i can believe it with whats fallen around here today. We're swimming in the kitchen and cellar and we're slightly higher than the track. I'll try and get some photo's tomorrow.

Regards Chris

Balls on the water level.

We'll try to sort something out soon then, when the weather is good enough to cut it. I son;t mind doing a couple of hours after work one night if one or two others can help (team spirit and all that). Both mowers and I think 2 strimmers work so 4 would be a good number if possible?

why doesnt the club buy a cheapish cellar pump, they are only £29 and will pump about 2000 gallons an hour right down to a couple mm off the floor,if you have a genny you are sorted, you already have lots of hosing you can use to pump it into the beck, should clear it in an hour or so.

£29,£33 delivered

But Dave, doesn't it come from the beck? You need somewhere to pump it to

i dont think so graham,i think it just floods with it being the lowest point?

im sure the beck water level is much lower than the track.

all you need to really do is dig a hole big enough to put a bucket in so its level with the ground, somewhere say at the side of the doubles where a marshall point is,cover the hole with a slab for normal days, when it floods you can then drop the pump into the bucket so it will pump right down to track level, you can sweep any water into the bucket if its only a few mm deep.

Unhappy

Just been for a look and it's pretty grim. The wife was exagerating a bit when she said it was 3/4 under water (thankfully) but it's still bad enough

Where's the doubles?

The flooding definitely comes from the beck spilling over, although the level has dropped down a bit now, I can't see any point in pumping the water out - more trouble than it's worth

I've got a photo from the week before the 2004 National when it was like that... but at least you could see the tops of the jumps peeping out...!

Hope its not a fish market again...

Dan - do you really think it will need some work doing to it? I think it looks fine - perhaps would be easier to take up boat racing than get the track ready Only kidding! Glad your doing it and not me.
