Default Starter box batteries

What batteries are people using in their starter boxes? Also what connectors, are Tamiya's fine?

I had been going to use an old cheap 4s lipo with broken balance connector, but think it's giving up the ghost!!

Ive just ordered 2 3300mah ni-mhs for my new smd box, got them off ebay for £12 each, I'm gonna use the tamiya plug for awhile, then go too deans, because tamiya plugs have too much resi so you dont get the full power from your batterys

I borrowed 2 Nimh packs off Ry when I first got a starter box, they were fine.

Then I bought a 4cell lipo from Hong Kong through Ebay, it started the car once then went up in smoke - literally. It was a new engine just run in, which was tight, possibly why it went.

So I bought a sealed lead acid motorbike battery which fits in and its bang on, reliable, can do two meetings between charges. I have chopped the wires inside so it plugs in with deans. Eventually im going to wire some external leads so I can charge it without removing it.

I'm using 2 3600 nimh packs with tamiya connectors, works well enough.

Dave

Lipo all the way in a starter box mate, I use a Losi 14.8v 2200mah think its 25c.

Ditch the Tamiya connectors if you have a new engine or any long starting the tamiya plug will melt, change to deans and I would also suggest removing the switch as they go up in smoke sometimes.
