cut away most of the tire first so you can recover the inserts...
And yes, after several days it becomes bigger, I don't care I won't use it anymore.

ive had this happen to me as far as i know it is due to the chemical reaction between the tyre compound and the acitone

I use acetone at work. Its a very damaging agent both for for the material its used on and the user's health. If you rub, a acetone soaked rag, on plastic you'll see the plastic will slowly start to rub of onto the rag. It's a very strong chemical, don't let the cool feeling on your skin fool you. I'm guessing the tyres inner sponge got soaked with some acetone, so once the tyre was re-instaled, the remaining liquid couldn't evaporate safely away. What was left stayed inside the tyre and weakened the rubber and they ballooned up. Acetone is a corrosive agent, look on the bottle it came in. I wouldn't use it!!!! Don't inhale that stuff, its very bad for your health.
Try using some dish soap and water letting your rims soak for a week, thats what I did back in the day. Of course you could also but new rims, they're not all that expensive these days, the price is worth your health I think. |

acetone is sometimes packaged in plastic containers because not all plastics are affected by it. I'm sure if you rub the tire with acetone it will start to melt.

It "de-fats" the skin, so avoid contact - use a hook to fish out your rims. I wouldn't want to use it day in day out. But dropping some rims in it once in while isn't going to kill you. t |

I have a small sealed container in the work room, and it remains that way, I have a 5litre can of it in the shed, and thats where that stays.
It won't harm you if you spill a little on your hand, it will remove any oils from your skin, but as long as it is only a one off, you be fine, you get your hands in the tub and work the tyres, it will crack the skin open and harm the skin. The fumes will also burn your eyes, airways, and cause scarring in there, it will also suffocate you in more extreme cases.

Just to add a small voice of reason to all this doom and gloom.
Acetone is NAIL VARNISH REMOVER. Women have been rubbing it on their hands for decades. I don't think I'd want to wash myself in it, or breath it in industrial quantities, but lets get a grip here. Secondly, It's the fumes which do the job. You don't need to immerse your wheel and tyre in an acetone bath. I put a small amount of acetone, maybe 5mm deep at the bottom of a container. pile up all my wheels and tyres on a platform above the acetone bath, seal the top of the container, and leave for 24 hours. wheel damage is kept to a minimum. Some wheel plastics soften, but if you leave them a few days, the plastic toughens up again, and you can still peel the rubber from the rims, because the composition of the superglue has been changed permanently. This way, you only need small amounts of acetone to do the job. Hope this helps. |

I pull wheels out of it with my teeth, I don't even close my eyes. Does me no harm.
![]() ![]() Seriously though, I think we're all aware its harmful - so its handled accordingly, but it does a great job and saves a lot of money in buying new wheels. |

Hell. I'm scared of my acetone now !
I always just put my hands into the tub and pull the tyres off, I did quite like the cold sensation.... Always wash my hands afterwards in some nice warm soapy water. |

always wear gloves thats a must, and never get it in your eyes,or mouth its very very bad that way,and for your info nail varnish remover is acetone diluted with a mineral oil, IE rapeseed oil or sun flour oil, thats helps stop it attacking your skin,

Dude, boil your wheels for 20 minutes in water then throw them into ice water and you'll be able to pop the tires off the rims right away. Don'y let the tires cool in the ice water, it has to be done as the rims are hot and the rubber cold.
