Default Pinion size with 6.5 Speed Passion

I have been running my DEX 410 for the first time last weekend at an indoor meeting and realized motor temperatures close to 100 C after a 6 min run. The ESC was quite cool at approx. 40-50 C compared to the motor.

Motor is a Speed Passion V3 6.5, ESC is the Speed Passion V2 GT PRO.
Pinion size was 18 teeth.

What pinion sizes do you use in your durangos with 6.5 motors?
Can the motor overheat due to a small pinion?

Thanks for any advice,
Frank

Same here I ran a 22T pinion on my 6.5T at the Petit.
I was nuts fast and only got to 75C in the car.

On a 5.5T I normally run a 20T.

Thanks guys!

Is it so that a pinion that is to small could overheat the motor, because the motor would almost everywhere run on full revs?

It could be.
The motor can overheat a little this way.
For short tracks I run my 6.5T on a 20T and 5.5T on a 19T.

See how you go with these.

Just check your transmission isn't tight or that you have a failed bearing somewhere.

so - 22 seems to be the direction to go.

footey –*nice to know that you never had any problems with overheating and there are no holes in your shell, did you install a pinion at all...?

You should quite easily be able to go up to a 22t pinion running a 6.5, even with an x12.

At worksop i run a 5.5 on a 23t pinion and have no problems with overheating. I even have the timing on the motor turned up to the max, im never satisfied with how quick my car is lol.
