Put simply I had a smashing time (practice, R1 & R2) and found myself tip-toeing around for a 15th in round in R3 ....
{In fairness I have to say that the damage was 2 front arms and a rear hub all of which have been given some abuse since the car was built at the begining of the year and, yes all original parts, and it was well below 0degC in the morning ... don't think any car would have survived!} Why was the car so "interesting to drive" yesterday??? Well the answer is I was running it in permenant 4WD (normally run one-way).... for R4 I put the one way back in and WOW ... car was back to it's awesome self, totally smooth and super drivable!!! Message here is please, all of you guys try the car with the one-way in!!!!! I know it's not the cheapest option but it made 1.75s ... yes 1.75s a lap difference to the car at Cov today. Most people would be happy to find 1.75 tenths per lap but a mod that gives 1.75s is amazing!!!! Only time I'll take it out now is for PDA (where the front brakes are essential). I'll be sending the set-ups to Arno tomorrow for posting on Petit Rc (too big to host on oople).
I posted the above as I was so shocked at the difference that I hoped that some other racers would benefit from trying the one-way if they havent already! I was working with my mate Ian (GPS3300 on here) with the FS and couldn't work out why he was able to lap so much faster than me on what we believed to be exactly the same set-up, he then passed me the car to look at and I grabbed it by the front wheel and noticed instantly that he'd refitted the one-way when I hadn't. Making no other changes to the car other than fitting the one-way not only did my best lap time improve but also my average lap times as the car was so much easier to place and felt so much safer! Only place the car wasn't better was a slippery braking area where I had to take care not to lock up and spin (as did most other people running one-ways no matter which car). I know one-ways aren't to everybody's taste but if you have an FS please try it ... could well be worth it! |

+1, from me, built mine with it in and will never fit a diff unless at PDA or if Tiverton were still around.

Yes, hear is my set-up at the mo' (indoors on carpet)
Front, #70, 3B, 40wt AE, Top= Inside, Bottom=Outer, 3-A link (innner=out & outer=inside), 2 notch for 'D' block, 1mm washer and black ballstud for bumpsteer, rest as kit except for the one-way, Thin roll bar. Rear, #60, 3B-Drilled to #55, 30wt AE, top=middle & bottom=middle, 2-A link+1mm hub end, la 243 arms and alloy holders 'A' block=C out, 'B' block ? is set for 3deg, 2 notch under 'B' block, Thick roll bar and shocks on the back.

Simon, thanks for the set-up.
May I ask if by thin and thick ARB you mean the kit standard ones or something else? Also can you remind me of what drill size #55 is please? I'm also guessing that is for native LiPo, no extra wieght? |

Offcourse front one-way needs a good driver, or a slow motor.
Our local folks with other car's are tried it. No-one was happy. |

I think everyone has a different driving style.
I am real tempted to try a rigid spool for indoor on carpet!! Normally One way is too hard for the average guy to use as it demands careful braking and aggresive cornering on tight hairpins etc But the feedback on the FS is that it seems to work very well and easy with the one way. I am going to build one and do some tests. |

@ Niel,
Don't do it, a rigid spool won't last 5mins + you'll never get the rotation in a corner.

Neil, I have to agree with Simon. The car will push like crazy then snap in. I've tried spools in the past but never for long.
If you can drive a car with permenant 4wd it'll probably be the quickest way around (as a rallycross driver you should be able to cope fine), if you want the car to feel a bit more like a 2wd buggy then throw in the one-way. What I think the FS would really benefit from is a centre one-way. Not the easiest thing to engineer but I'm working on it, maybe have a few in time for the Petit race ... think it would be a worthwhile item around there ![]() |

Well,
As you know i play with touring cars normally indoors. I use in a modified car with a 6.5 turn motor a one way as it suits me i can hammer down the straight and slide the back end into corners. The spool is the fastest set up by far and the easiest to drive but it is not strong enough in my car as it keeps breaking this is due to it being lightweight alu and really only suitable for stock class. So i cant see why on the same surface a spool wont work!!!!! |

I think i heared from the TC guys that the front spool is really the only way to be fast. Some cars even come with front spool on stock.

Weight of the car is a large factor aswell as the amount of grip and the fact that the wheels are larger and the driveshafts longer ( more forces) will mean the spool won't last long if made of alloy and the driveshaft CVD pins will snap if you had a steel spool.
