Default Micro t questions

Hi,

Just wondering if anybody knows with a box stock Micro-T:

What size is the stock spur that comes with the car?
Can you gear the stock motor down beyond what comes in the box?
What is the stock FDR?
Can you gear the Atomic BB motor any further than the stock motor?
Do you have to change radio system or servo if you upgrade to brushless?

Don't seem to be able to find answers anywhere.

Cheers,

Nick

I'm not taking mine apart to count teeth, but I can say that it comes with 3 different sized pinions in the box, and these pretty much cover the whole gear range offered by the motor mount. IFIAK nobody sells different pinions or spurs.
Switching to brushless means removal of all the stock electrics. The stock receiver and servo are a combined unit, so switch to a brushless esc means a new receiver too, which needs to be very small ie pricy. Also the servo uses a weird 4 wire plug that only works with the stock receiver so you'll need a new servo too. And it has to be a JR SM22 as nothing else fits. Since the SM22 has a different spline pattern from the stock servo a specific servo saver for it is needed.
Basically brushless isn't worth it. The Atomic BB 2 provides plenty of speed and can calmly pull the largest pinion but works with the stock esc. If thats not enough, go Lipo not brushless. The Lipo pack is cheap, 7.4V instead of 4.8V so faster and also gives longer run times.

Thanks that was pretty informative; I already have the LiPo and I agree it is pretty hot, I am just debating with myself as to whether or not the brushless system is worth it and it seems the answer is a definite NO!

So I assume that the extra spur gears you can purchase at various places are designed to work with the brushless set ups. However, I would like to purchase an alloy one and Delrin pinions just for the sake of wear and tear, so the question is still open as to how many teeth the spur has, if anybody knows. Otherwise out with the magnifying glass and start counting I suppose.

Well if you are willing to go to the expense of the brushless it will make the car very fast indeed, we are are talking 10th scale speeds. But its a lot of effort and the end result is rather like putting a 3.5t in a B4 - far too much power for the chassis to actually handle.
That said the plastic stock spur and middle pinion on mine have survived life with lipo and brushless, even when I tried driving it round the Bury Metro track! Partially this is because its so uncontrollable it won't go in a straight line for more than a few feet, but I think it might also be because its pretty tough.
Mine did break its gearbox, but that was when a 1/12th punted it at Macctrack.......

OK, thanks; that just tanked that idea, I would have to fork out $100 for the receiver, another $110 for the module, which won't work in any of my radios (all Futaba) and the new servo for say $20 - $130 and we haven't even started adding the aluminium bits I reckon it would need to protect it from the speed it would then be capable of doing! I don't think so! This is after all predominently used by my 5yo son! Is there no cheap way around this?!

I've tried a 4T in the B4 and if that's the comparison there is no way I would even consider it. But the idea of longer run times is appealing, but it would probably be cheaper to just get a couple more Lipos and a few of the Atomic motors and let hime thrash the crap out of them.

I'm torn!
