Default Understeer??

Hi all,

First time out with the X6 yesterday at Kidderminster Astro masters, car went pretty well, and was planted of the bumps, but i seemed to struggle with massive amounts of understeer?? Now people who know my driving know i hate a car with loads of steering but I was really struggling to get it round the corners and was throw it around and almost handbrake it in at times.

Im running the Ellis setup that it gives you in the box, but with AE shocks with losi red pistons and 25/35 oil. Not running the e-speed hangers though, so running the outer hole on the B4 shock tower with no washers. Was running Shumi Green spikes with edit medium inserts. I understand it was damp yesterday but the balance didn't seem to change even when it dried up.

As for weight i started off with the car at 1630g, with a 35/65 split, and put an extra 90g on top of the servo to try and get it a bit more drivable, bringing the cars weight to 1720 overall with a 38/62 split. So i finished the day with 90g on top of the servo, 35g behind the servo, 75g under the speedo, and 80g under the lipos as the ones i run are quite light (180gm).

Any help or ideas, or suggestions of silly things im doing wrong would be greatly appreciated!

Ben

have you glued your servo saver up pal? check it at the very least, cos they're absolute bobbins

The hangers make a big difference to how much steering the car has so maybe try and get hold of some of them.

Weight wise you had plenty in there so that should not have been the issue.

What wheelbase were you running and how many washers under the front inner link??

Ride height is also pretty important on the car, I run front arms just above level and rear arms just below level.

That was the setup I put on the car, followed it to the letter, set shocks up to the right lengths etc.

Was running the arms towards the rear and the rear hubs towards the front, like it says on the sheet.. Glued the servo saver rock solid...

Was running 1mm shim under the inner front link... As for ride height, arms level at the front and just about level at the rear IIRC. Was thinking at the meeting that the E-speed hangers might help, but probs not enough i recon.

Tried several tyre types, just seemed to alter overall grip rather then balance.

Cheers for you help everone

Ben

Ben were other X6's experiencing the same problem? If not it sounds something specific to your car. You don't have Nimh's AND added weight at the front do you?
