Default gearing a 4.5 indoors for 501x

tested my new 501 x at DMS with a 4.5 on Thursday. The track is small and 90% carpet. I was gearing with 17 / 96 with the big pulley conversion. car was really sluggish , I was testing with an old pack of 4200 nimh s were these at fault or am I overgeared? probably going to run with cells for the rest of this year so help would be appreciated. Cheers, Phil.
ps running a nosram itcs speedo, if you have any experience with settings this would be great also .

Have you tried 15/91 that's the ratio for the 501x Worlds car.
I have heard people using associated spurs also to get different ratio's.

I race at DMS and run a 14/96 with the big pulley conversion. Usually on a 4.5 LOSI combo. 17 is way too big.

Got to be batteries surely? i run a 5.5t lrp x11 and jesus my 501x is ballistic - way too fast lights the tyres all the time! - in fact im downgrading to a 7.5 turn to make it more controlable...

17 tooth or not a 4.5turn would rip on anythin from 14 up to 20 or so i would think.....get some lipo batteries is my advice - no comparison really to standard cells

i'd also turn up the punch setting on the Nosram to around 5 as the defualt setting is below linear which makes the car feel a little sluggish under acceleration.

But as Darren says, i'd take out the 4.5, major overkill for such a small hall. I used to struggle keeping a 10x1 on the track in a buggy!
