Default X-6 / x-6 squared How many snapped chassis's ??

Hello there, before i make the plunge and go x6 route I am just wondering how many people have snapped there chassis's?

Or even with the older car, how many people have done a nose cone in?

Is it quite rare?

Thanks

Col.

(chassis is in the post Monday boss sorry i forgot),
I did wonder where it was......

As distributor now for some time and ealing with all the X-Facory affairs here in the UK, I can confiorm that we have a total of 5 chassis returned TOTAL between the X6 and the X6 Squared (out of hundreds sold)

Of these, two were original X6 and three were X6 Squared and to keep it simple shall we just say that although one or two were "warranty" type issues or quality related (and swapped of course) the majority had suffered "some abuse" shall we say either on the track or with the dremel......

Could it have anything to do with people using the thick carbon fibre shocktowers? At the EIR and National in Charleroi, only 2 people broke their noses (not because of a hard crash), and both where using such a (K-Factory) shocktower. This one doesn't flex, which keeps the impact of the crash completely into the chassis, causing the break. Cars were an X-6 and S2.

The only time i have heard of anyone breaking the squared chassis was when for whatever reason they would not run the brace at the front of the chassis, this obviously puts all the stress onto the bottom of the chassis.

Personally i have never broken a nose cone or a chassis in 2 1/2 years

I got the 4 gear X6, and haven't had it long to be fair, but I regularly do a triple somersault with a half pike down the back straight, and I am very happy with the cars durability.

By front brace do you mean the servo mount on the non sq x6. I have modded my chassis to use b4 servo mounts so don't use the brace, a lot of people have said the chassis is strong enough in that area and doesn't need any extra bracing.

I was chatting to Mr steel at racing today, thats all. He snapped is squared chassis in 2 at the front. He has got the k factory front mods on though... Hmm i wonder if that could be the reason. Feel free to comment as it may be worth going back to std setups in order to save the chassis guys. Col.

I ran my x6 4 gear (non squared) today @ southport with a k factory tower.. no problems...?? It does have the squared rear tower and wishbones.. but other than that.... ? I think (imo) it must just be the unlucky few with a default in the material/drive harder than most brigade that get problems wit chassis breakages.... OR.... can someone explain why the shock tower can be to blame...??

I have both the original X-6 and now have the squared with no problems what so ever. I did break a nose piece on my original. It was my fault of course. I was carrying way TOO much speed into a corner and caught a railroad spike that holds the piping in place. The new chassis is WAY better than the original.

I can report that I've broken the front off my squared chassis. I run the K factory front tower, the night I broke the chassis I had 1 pretty big accident...Got bombed by another car coming off the side of a nearby jump, hit me head on as I came flat out down the straight! Car survived completely at the time...with the excepetion of the bodyshell being ripped clean off.

I crashed a little later on, with what I thought was a soft one, but it took the front of the chassis off

That night I'd also fitted an extra bit of bling...ali & carbon front top plate, which meant the front shock tower was mounted in a totally metal construction...leaving the chassis to bear the full brunt of any impact.

I've since swapped back to the plastic top plate, but still run the K factory tower.

Expensive night, but I'm not worried about it's durability, it was 'one of those things'. I'd of broken the B4 chassis as well I'm 100% sure. Love the car too much to jump ship!

No Jono, by front brace i mean the bit that is from the b4 and comes and screws down onto the top of the x6 chassis, if you dont run this then you are asking for trouble, it is there for a reason.

The brace on the "Old" car was just to hold the servo in place and to mount the cell strap onto. It didnt strengthen the car in any way.

The spar that all the back end bolts on to has fractured on my 3-gear X6 (which I'd just put a 4-gear 'box in) but only after it got punted up the arse by another car running at full chat after I'd just put it down on the track and was getting onto the rostrum .

Please guys let's remember what we are doing here -- building the lightest fastest car we can. There are trade-offs all over the place.

For example, we could make the chassis with far more carbon in the plastic than we do. The chassis would then be lighter and stiffer, both good things, but it would also be more brittle.

We could make it of "plastic," which uses fiberglass reinforcing instead of carbon. This is not as stiff and heavier, both bad things, but the part would be less brittle.

Again let's remember what we are doing, racing at what are really absurdly high speeds, then hitting things.

So we build a light, stiff, somewhat brittle car, drive it at phenominal speeds, jump in the air, and hit things. Hmmm.

We sell a few chassies here and there, but it's not a big deal. For all three of our cars, the chassis is one of the slowest-selling parts. Most of our smaller dealers don't carry them in stock at all. From what we can tell, we have no more than the usual amount of chassis breakage. We will be out at the molding shop in L.A. right after the Shoot-Out, and will investigate several ideas on the chassis.

We actually have a problem at X Factory that we do not sell enough parts. Selling parts is the most profitable part of the busniess, and our parts sales, compared to Kit sales, are low. What this means is that, compared to other manufacturers, our parts in general don't break...

Very true Chazz, i think everyone would agree that they break approximately 5 AE parts to one X factory part.
