I thought I would share pics of (my) the 2nd 'purpose built' 1/8 electric, after the Caster. The Hyper 9E:















I've raced it once already, and have to say, the handling is superb, no loose back end either, which the 1/8 electrics can suffer from.

Hi, I have a Hyper 9e, same as marvins except with a castle 2200kv combo, 4s lipos and just wondered if anyone had any problems with grip roll. The buggy is superb as marvin said with great handling and no tail slide (except when induced) but there is a tendancy to roll and I could do with some pointers.

I have changed my tires from stock to mini pins and although it helped alot I am still rolling on my lid when other buggys seem fine. Would a change on the sway bars help or shock oil/spring change help?

I have raced it a few times with varying results and have not experienced any front arms problems yet as it seems to be one of the weak points on this buggy. My pinion has deserted me a few times and I think a slipper of some description would help this but unfortunately I don't think there is such a thing for it?

Is there anyone else with a Hyper 9e who can give me some ideas on set ups?

Try trimming an outer row of pins off at the front to help curb grip roll. Also try a thicker anti roll bar, and thicker shock oil.

Mike at RC-Monster makes a 'Slipperential' which is a slipper clutch built into a centre differential. Unfortunately, it won't fit the Hyper 9E, as the centre diffs used are the same size as the Hyper Mini ST, not normal 1/8 size. Also, try better threadlock; a lack of a slipper is nothing to do with loose pinions.

Thats great thanks Marvin. I assumed a slipper would remove some of the stress from the drivetrain especially going from forward into reverse. The power on tap from the castle neu 2200kv can be quite severe and I'm expecting diffs to go at some point. I'm just trying some different threadlock now and so far so good.

Marvin have you encountered the front A-arm problem at all? I was recommended by someone that the arms can be replaced with the arms from an xray (I think, or another make) which increases the overall width too. I don't no about anyone else but the 9e appears to quite narrow when compared to other buggies?

You're running reverse? Are you bashing or racing? I would disable it for racing - it will help prevent the 'accidental' reverse syndrome.

The 'front arm problem' refers to the front lower arms being very weak at the gearbox end - they have a tendancy to break away at that point (where the hingepin passes through them).

Having said that, I only broke one when I hit someone's foot at nearly full speed...

Yeah I've been running reverse which I will disable as I'm primarily racing, since I have a nitro too it's not something I would miss.

I too have collected a few obstacles and landed badly on my fronts arms many times and have not seen any splits/cracks yet. I think maybe I've read too many posts where it has been reported by others and got paranoid.

The hudy link has been very useful, I don't know why I haven't found it before - thanks again for the help.

Do you know of any other resources/threads/fora based on the hyper 9e, I've been searching alot and the info is quite sparse which I'm attributing to the fact it's a relatively new buggy?
