I really am having a tough time getting my head around all the new technology in the racing side of the hobby so I apologise for my continuing questioning
![]() I'm considering the move to a brushless set up and have read so many threads on this topic that my eyes are bleeding ![]() I'm going to be racing mainly 2WD using TrakPower 4900s on a pretty slippery surface, the other chaps at the club seem to be running 6.5 combos. I very much like the aesthetics and price of the Losi Xcelorin but there seems to be a lot of threads highlighting problems with these sets and all the talk of firmware upgrades has my head spinning. So in essence I'm looking for a brushless combo (I guess that sersored is the way to go) that will fit easily into a 2WD, is easy to set up and run straight out of the box, has no serious reliability issues and is reasonably priced? Any advice will be gratefully accepted, thanks.

Avoid the losi system. I had one which worked ok in itself, but could never even get the software to install on my PC to even try and update the firmware and sold the car it was in and the system before i managed to sort it. (and I'm reasonably capable with computers normally).
I would suggest a 7.5 / 8.5 for 2wd. I've always ran a 6.5 and found it hard to handle with nimh let alone lipo ![]() |

lrp, nosram, novak, speed passion etc are all good easy to use speedos that all fit 2wd's ok if they come with fans they usually don't fit in most 2wd's but they arn't needed for 2wd anyway 99% of the time (more for 4wd), these all just need 1minute of attention setting them up then you don't have to fiddle with them ever again

I have posted in relation to the losi system. It WAS a complete pain in the arris. Now its all working and is great. Once the software is on pc, latest firmware on etc it really is a bargain.
The support from this forum is first class and as such someone would always steer u through it. I have no patience and wanted to throw it out. Now its sorted- think its great! |

I am a fan of Nosram stuff. It's not so much that they do anything more or even better than any of the others available but I really appreciate the back-up. I have only ever had one problem with their ESC's and Mirage replaced it for a brand new one within 48hrs! If I need another ESC it will undoubtedly be from Nosram.

There is a number of threads on the EZ RUN 5.5 combo, one which I have posted. I believe they are made by the same people who make the Losi system a company called Hobby Wing. These sytems are great value for money and really easy to set up. Don't be put off by the 5.5 rating I feel they are only as quick as 6.5. I have mine set on aggresive but you can choose a soft setting when you start off and turn it up as your skill levels increase. Only cost around £70, seriously you can't go wrong. The top boys won't be running them, but I am an OK club racer and there will be plenty more expensive set ups chasing my chinese powered X6 through out the season. For once cheap isn't nasty.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these arn't on the BRCA approved list ?
Therefore if your wanting to do regionals / nationals and other meeting run to these regs you won't able to use it. |

Sadly there is nothing cheap on the BRCA list so I am going to run my EZRUN COMO at club level at Southport. I am looking into the posibility of runing the Mtroniks P2 sensorless BRCA legal motor with my EZ RUN speedo for regionals and nationals. I don't think the BRCA can stop me running a cheap speedo. I think most people looking at EZ RUN's just want a decent cheap way into an expensive sport. I feel that if drivers ran cheaper products it may drive prices down in general.

The Losi Xcelorin S motors are available for under £50 (half the price of many of the top names), they perform very well and are BRCA legal too.
Cheap, good and legal..........

true, but many people manage to do regional level on a budget. My Nosram system in the b4 cost £90 second hand and has been going strong for almost two years, only now needing a replacement motor.
People can spend what they like, and often do, but it IS possible to run competitively on a budget inside the brca regs. The hobby is expensive as you want to make it. |

The Losi system now feels almost identical to my old LRP brushless with the firmware upgrades. If anyone has any problems upgrading or setting them up anyone in the team will be more than happy to help with it.
The motors are superb too, she was a missile on sunday with a 6.5, prob too powerful ![]() |

When i moved to brushless i chose nosram and so far it hasnt really mised a beat I have had one of my two nosrams go pop on me but i sent it back to mirage and within a week i had a new one though my door super service
![]() Runs nice and cool and isnt to tall so fit in most 2wds easy peasy. As for motors ive run the orion/peak motors which are very good havent had any problem with damp in them but they seem to have alot of torque. I recently bought a losi 6.5 motor to give it a go i was going to keep it as a spare but i was so impressed i left it in my 4wd. Really good for the money. A

I've had a good look round the other suggested manufacturers and there are indeed some very nice combos available, however the price always seem to be a little high for my level of racing and my first dive into brushless. The EZrun system is a good price but does not apear to be sensored?
So I'm still led back to the Xcelorin. Is it possible to purchase a combo that has already had the firmware upgraded? It sort of makes sense that Losi would ensure that any new stock or existing unsold stock is already upgraded before sale or am I being naive?

You are right the EZ RUN system is not sensored however it does not suffer with cogging like un sensored systems of the past. After reading the DMS post on the losi motors being BRCA legal and a resonable price. I thought I will try my sensored Reedy motor on my EZ RUN speedo. Only tried on the bench but it worked fine suprisingly. I will try it for real on the frist outdoors at Southport (05/04). If it works fine it should mean you could run pretty much any brushless motor with the speedo up to about 6.5 turn.

Sensorless systems feel diffrent to sensored systems and sensored systems are generally preffered.
