One thing that would me off a particular car/truck is a lack of information/enthusiasm from the manufacturers or distributors. If they can't be bothered to update their websites to inform owners of new products and upgrades, what does that say about their attitude to the product.
I also check the availability of spares before buying. If I am going to have to scour the web for the simplest of replacements, I will steer clear. That said, I do try to show support for the little guy and the underdog.

But G does have a good point and possibly the best point so far.. So I am agreeing, I need confidence in the guys who design and test the car.

I have to agree, I'd hate to buy a crap car.

Although a crap manuals annoying, as is a fragile car.

Well in my case, its not a case of being "put off" a car more so the "iron out the creases" factor. I really wanted to buy the TRF501X but was unsure of the package. The problem being that although the kit, or any new kit to be honest, is a new release it still takes the feedback from the public/"racer" to actually finish of the R&D ie shock shafts on the TRF501X. Not to mention any other creases that need ironing out on other new kits that have come out.

I have gone the other side of the spectrum by opting for the XX4WE based purely on the results its had in meetings etc. OK, the XX4WE is an old kit but there is plenty of reference here on the net with regards to problem solving and fixes/setups that make it a bareable kit. As well as the new kits come to think of it.

Thats my 10 penneth worth and I could be wrong.

i would say how easy it is to rebuild or fix, for example if you need to replace something but if you had to take most of the car apart to get to broken part.

hope that makes sense

No offence intended here, but I would never buy a kit from you! For a multitude of reasons, but most of them being all the questions that you have to ask about the car you're trying to build. While I can understand that it is a form of market research, most of the questions have been answered by Rich Lowe and others like him. If Rich were to market a car and recomended it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, but because you need to ask, that rules you out. Sorry!

Who ever mentioned me making a car to sell? The car I am building (currently) is purely for fun

It was purely a question I wanted answering, sorry if it upset or offended you.

Was it soft, or crusty?

Perhaps you got it at a 'really good' price, so the seller decided to give it one last blast.... how was the feedback you left for him????
