Default Losi Xcelorin that won't go into reverse

Ok, I've just built my car with an xcelorin 6.5 setup. It has the latest firmware flashed and I've set it up to have reverse turned on. I've also calibrated successfully.

However, the car won't reverse? Now I haven't take it off my test bench and put it on its wheels yet, so could that be a factor (electrics not fastened down yet...)

Otherwise, anyone have a clue whats wrong?

Jackwood on here bought a unit from the same shop at a similar time and he reports that his won't reverse with the 1.28 firmware but would when he reverted to the previous one. He has however recently reported it glitching with reverse on the older firmware now too.

I'm using driving the ESC with a spectrum dx3r at 3.3 framerate. I've even tried reveresing the channel on the transmitter and pushing to reverse accelerates as expected, but pulling the trigger doesn't engage reverse.

Is the Xcelorin really as crap as I was warned?

Hmm reverse worked very briefly, but then I turned on and off and it stopped again. Its definitely getting the reverse signal as the red led comes on when I go full reverse.

Additionally selecting a profile, once I have chosen one, instead of illuminating with the leds indicating the selected profile (which it does on first boot up, blue+yellow=profile1) it just illuminates the blue led from then onwards.

Really beginning to think they havent tested this firmware. Now where can I get a tekin in the uk?

So you did find the issue too.

Obviously not my stupidity or my Transmitter!!

I logged a technical question with Losi USA, so lets see if I get an answer. Still nothing after 3 days though :O

You can't always put stock in what you find on Chinese websites. If you hunt around you can find some of the products we make on Chinese manufacturers websites, but I can guarantee 100% they are not made there!!!

I have this suspician that the unit is made by that company in china and rebranded and sold by losi. It would explain why its so competitively priced, and why the firmware is shit!

I'm thinking of swapping to a tekkin which is $$$ but at least its developed by a US company who one can talk to.

p.s. I raised a tech question too, but no answer. Also posted on this forum which I think has the losi xcelorin guy on and he's replied, but I don't think he's understanding the issue

just a silly question, is it a forward/brake/reverse or a forward/brake/delay/reverse or a forward/brake/release brake/reverse?

The latter I believe. i.e. 2 seconds in neutral to reverse.

Having another try at flashing the bios at the moment in case it went wrong (the software doesn't manage to verify properly which appears to be a known bug). It's also seeming to fail to save the settings I put in with the quick program card despite following the steps. Seems this was someone in chinas first programming job!

Ok just tried same problem. It couldn't be because I've got the car on a stand free wheeling and not running it on the ground could it? (Not trimmed wires or stuck electrics down yet due to this problem so can't put it down)

as long as the wheels spin, no, shouldn't matter.

Is there another PC you can use to flash the firmware?

I am having the exact same issues, so I am pretty sure it won't be PC related, or related to sitting on a stand.

It is brake/delay/reverse. And no, delaying doesn't make it work.

Have you spoken to Marc about it yet? My natural instinct is to just return it as life is too short to wait for firmware updates etc especially if there is a chinese factory behind the scenes. I guess I should have listened when people messaged me saying these were nothing but trouble! If I could find a tekin rs pro in the uk I'd probably just get it and a decent motor, but I can't track one down.

What about a Novak or Speed Passion?

No, haven't spoken to Marc yet. I did email him on Friday night about it.

I really wanted a programmable unit and from reading around the tekin does seem the most advanced unit with very high quality components. it costs in relation to that though...

To be honest I'm sure this losi could work if they gave out a working bios.

Not sure Marc has any alternatives in stock going by his website.

Hmm thinking of going mamba max 5700. Has USB programming and is 150 quid for the combo. Only alarming aspect is that the software looks very similar to the losi stuff... I've got a feeling about that...!!!

don't get it then! LRP/Nosram and novak have always been faultless for me and very good, you don't need all the pc programming software in my opinion if i'm honest, you can do all you need on the speedo/transmitter very easily and don't have to carry a laptop around with you everywhere. It may be slightly more expensive but well worth the £££ and you don't get any silly problems like these on the losi you have pointed out etc.

Just spoke to a shop about alternatives and they don't have the mamba max yet, and apart from a couple of brands he reckoned they all had issues and that they had found the xcelorins to be very good. Typical lol.

Oh well, maybe I give it more of a shot before jettisoning.

We have Tekin RS and RS Pro's both in stock in good numbers, we also have Novak GTB's, LRP Sphere, LRP Sphere TC, LRP SPX and of course Losi Xcelorin S (which as nowhere near as bad as SOME people say, they HAVE had niggles but most "maybe all" are now sorted and are very good value for money) all in stock, prices as per our website

Out of interest, you mention the use of reverse, is it in a competition buggy, since if it is, you really dont have a need for reverse surely........

It is a competition buggy but I need to do some bashing and practise before I race it, so reverse would be very handy

Anyway general consensus is that Jack and I have defective hardware and should switch it out. May as well go along with that as my shells aren't going to be painted for 4 weeks anyway, so may as well relax about it and go with the flow!
