Default hyper black steering servo

Just got a hyper st black edition for my son and me for xmas.
Ive heard that the steering servo packs up as its not up too the job,if this is the case surley manufacturers have a duty to make sure they are fit for the purpose?
I'm new to nitro rc and would welcome advice on a replacement servo should it be needed but not too expensive mainly for bashing possibly local club use.
Would it also be advisable to use a 6v hump pack instead of the standard batt box, would this give a bit more power to the servo?
Any advise would be appreciated.

As far as the "steering servo" goes, it is not faulty, it is just a standard, plastic geared servo.

When driven hard (read - crashed lots) the plastic gears will strip.

Of course the manufacturers could put their better metal geared one in, but it would make the car dearer to buy to start with.

If you added things like better shocks, higher spec engine, better servos, chassis braces etc etc, you would then have a car the same "spec" as the Hyper 8.5 RTR that they do and sadly the same price too! For those who want the "better" stuff as standard get the 8.5 for those who want the best value for money (read - cheapest priced) get one of the three Hyper 7's....

Thank you for your reply, your point is taken regarding price etc.
As i havnt used the car yet, i will presume that everything will be ok but if the worst happens could you recommend a stronger metal geard servo?

Just didint want my son to be dissapointed on xmas.

Best Regards.

Hobao themselves do two better servos than the original, one is just £24 (slightly better) one is £35 (metal geared and a good upgrade).

But there are several other excellent brands who offer upgrade servos that will be almost bullet proof in a Hyper - such as Associated XP range £50/60 - Futaba £35+ - Scanner £30+ - Savox £45+. All of this these makes would be a "one time only purchase" and baring seriuos abuse/bad luck would /should be the last servo you would ever buy, but see how you get on with the kit one, some users have no problems at all....

HTH, Darren

I use a Bluebird BMS-630MG (£24.99) on my Hyper ST and it's fantastic, strong, quick enough for steering and hasn't missed a beat since I bought it.
