Default Build query TM2 V2

I’ve moved back to the TM2 and brought a V2

Question – I have a tight spot / notch between the crown gear and the diff. I’ve shimmed the diff and the drive shaft as per the manual, but keep getting a spot on the crown gear where it binds.

I’ve removed it, cleaned it and can’t see and damage, I’m confused.com

Any Ideas what I could try?

Hi mate,

I had the same problem on my second TM2v2 I built, the first one was fine so there must be odd tolerances in some of the parts.

I found that the shimming the manual suggests isn't quite correct and isn't quite correct and when the gears wear in a little you can get poor meshing. It's better to place all 3 shims on the side where the manual shows 2 (left hand side looking at it from the rear if my memory serves me right) and have none on the other side. Aswell as this do not over tighten the 2 screws that hold the rear gearbox cover as I've also noticed this can cause a bit of a bind.

If these suggestions do not help take a look at the centre spur gear/slipper assembly. The manual suggests you to Loctite the screw into this assembly and if you add a little too much and it spills over onto the bearing it can seize the bearing a little causing a notchy drivetrain.

In my case it was this 3rd option that solved my problem in the end but the first two are valid suggestions and shimming the diff as I say will definitely work out better for you than the manual suggestion.

Thanks for the reply.

Tries all three of these options, it's still doesn't feel right, I think it the crown gear.

Is the crown gear on the V1 the same?

How tight is tight? It may just need bedding in with a few runs

The drive train felt tight in one spot and sounded rough. I've swap my crown gear from my V1 and it's all good

I ran the car for the first time this Wed and it was just amazing, why I moved away from the TM2 I don’t know.

Straight out of the box it was quick, nothing fell apart, nothing broke, it finished every race and the weakest link was the driver.

The car is so much more agile than the V1, I should have brought one ages ago.
