Default 210 rtr shock oil

Hi all,

A guy noticed at the club last night that my shocks weren't full of oil. To be honest I took the car out of the box and drove it. He recommended Losi 35 weight in the front and 30 rear. Sound ok? Or should I use Durango stuff?

It's indoor high grip carpet by the way.

Cheers!

Sounds a bit thin with the stock six hole pistons, I would start at 35 rear and 45 up front, depends a lot on how you want your ride. When the speed picks up you will probably want to go a bit stiffer on the springs and even heavier oil up front.

Best thing to do is have a look at the set up sheets on the team durango website to see what brands of oil are being used and pick the most popular and then stick with it. The most important thing is to try and stick with one brand.

I was talking losi oils, since that was what you were referring to, just make sure you stick with the same brand so that you know the changes when you change your oils.

This chart is a good companion if you happen to be swtching between brands or want to translate someone else's set up:

Out of interest what is the RTR supplied with out of the box in terms of shock oil weight? It will give me a starting point for feel.

I have been running at the local track (Silverstone-Brilliant ) and am getting used to the control but will soon need to look at set up a little more. I have upgraded to a better ESC and may look to boost the 13.5T motor or upgrade after a few more meetings (to try and stop other cars mounting mine down the straight )

I find the car quite twitchy on the front but want to gradually change things to understand what each change does to effect the car. I don't want to go for raw power without understanding how to set a car up to cope. Often slower is better but the straight line speed makes it hard to make up the time elsewhere on the track.

Really enjoying the racing and still believe the RTR is great value to get back in the sport. Just want to spend the tight budget in the right areas

If the last 18 months have been anything to go on, nowhere!
Just choose a brand (any brand) and stick to it.
Only slight issue is that some brands use weight to rate their oils and others use cst. Weight is a fairly arbitrary measure and not particularly predictable, each manufacturers version of 27.5 weight oil could differ by enough to make significant difference! Cst is an SI unit, and not really open to manufacturers making ratings up, 450 cst is 450 cst wherever you get it from!

tbh, the shocks I got on my rtr were also slightly randomly filled (not an issue as I only wanted them for my 410!). So not really a good start for driving feel!
I reckon you'd be better off just getting a couple or three bottles of suitable oil and refilling them as per the durango build guide.
Have a look on either the TD site or petitrc for set ups for the track you drive at (or ask another 210 driver at your club, they might even help you with the oil and rebuild/refill)

Hi,

Like a few on here I am upgrading the 210RTR to be a little more competitive. I have the shock oil to refill now and looked at the piston head which has 6 holes. Looking at the set up sheets there are a host of differences and understand you need to try things out and set up is often down to the individual.

However, do many of you run with 6 holes in the piston still? I take it this is a softer feel than say a four hole? I run astro indoors on an often technical type track. I may try the new oil with the current configuration but just wondered while I had the things apart.

I have the rtr and I have a feeling my rear shocks may not filled as they should.

The reason for thinking this is that the rear seems to sag, is a lot lower and doesn't rebound like the front does... this is my first RC car so I don't know if this is right or not but the back end just seems wrong to me.

I suppose the only way to find out is to open up the shock? but from what I explained would you guys say that would be under filled shocks, another cause or is this normal?

Cheers guys!

Default Oil

I have been running a 210 for 2 years now on indoor astro and have now got the best set up by going back to 6 x 1.2 pistons front & rear with AE oil 40 front and 30 rear, that is with no weight added and black rear springs and in mid motor set up.
