New unplaned project: Cat 2000 touring car

Hi guys,

I've got some spare parts for my cat 2000. Among them some parts of the touring, which I did not expect.

I have enough spare parts, so now I plan to build such a "cat 2000 touring car".

But I Would need help and some useful info:

- Accurate designation: Cat 2000 touring car, SST,...!??? No idea...

- Which parts are different in comparison to the buggy? (exept shock towers and shocks...)

- Year of release

- Unfortunately I can not find a manual ... not even as a PDF file :-/

- More useful info

Im also interested as I've just finished restoring a cat 2000 touring car but can't find a suitable body in correct size to fit it.
Want a retro BMW or Alfa ideally.
Please help if you can.

When I get round to it, I have a Peugeot 406Ti and a Metro 6R4 Rally-X shell to send to Kamtec, these were similar/same as what was used on wide buggies back in the day!

I have an unused BMW E30 uncut touring car body which I bought for my Optima Mid Custom Special when it was new.

I 'm still planning to use it (after 20 years?!?) but if I send it to Kamtec do they take a mould so others can use it too?

Sorry Durango And Chris I don't know much about Cats, so not sure if this might fit?

I'm 99% sure that a Cat 2000 touring car complete kit never existed. What they did offer was 2 conversion kits:

- one came with shock towers and shocks to convert the car to a "circuit" car keeping the std body.

- the other came with shock towers that had body mounts attached to them to allow the use of touring car bodies.

At my local club, we ran them with the circuit conversion, still keeping the buggy bodies.

It would have been 1994 when the bits were released, as from memory I think they only fitted the original cat 2000 and not the EC (that was released in 95). Interestingly though, the rear towers you have there look like they would fit the EC - although they don't look like Schumacher carbon, so i'm guessing someone made some after market ones to get round that issue.

I think the only OOB wide TC was from Ttech. Schumacher and Yokomo were both conversion kits.
I raced the Yokomo with a TC kit and on buggy form, with a simple onroad set up.
The body to have was the 405 in my day, the Vectra was decent too, huge flat bonnet, lots of downforce.
I miss this class a lot, i remember hanging on as long as i could, running alongside the 190mm cars from Tamiya and Yokomo, and eventually Schumacher.
Im really envious buddy, this is a car id love to do someday, the 2000 TC was a beast.

The different parts were basically shocks, shock towers and body mounts, everything else was the same as the buggy. Looks like you have everything you need. Here's an example so you can see what it looks like.



Body of choice used to be the Frewer Peugeot 406


If you want a 406 I'm sure Frewer would happily pull some for you, but just pulling one or two plus postage from New Zealand makes it expensive for a one off.

Alternative bodies are readily available from Delta Plastick, PK Racing and Horizon Hobby UK still lists the Escort Cosworth

If Kamtec or Team Bluegroove take your shell they will take a mould from it so they can sell repros. Often the original is destroyed in the process and they will send you repros as a replacement.

I used a Metro 6R4 shell on my Ta02 touring car, I seem to remember we ran them on buggies during the rally cross days at west london in the 80`s. The shell is available from flee bay stiil I'm sure I've got on knocking about I'll me assure it against my top ftorce which is say is roughly the same size.

Thanks for the many replies!

Now I can start the project...I think I will build a red 2000 TC...these red parts are simply awesome

The red carbon fibre parts are from Carbotec Germany, the black carbon fibre parts from MoTec GmbH, also in Germany.

I have everything I need for this conversion...would just be nice to have a standard 2000 chassis plate (U1517) and the appropriate body. For the body, I will take a look at Frewer.

I have found that the chassis plate u1752 schumacher (touring car chassis plate for cat 2000) is still available ... can someone tell me which part of the act exactly or how this part looks like and whether it is suitable for this conversion kit?
