Thats one thing that really annoys me when marshaling. If I make a mistake I dont touch the controls untill the car has been set down and the marshal is clear. It's just really ignorant to keep the throttle planted while on your lid...

I think it sok to rev your motor if your stuck upsidedown and trying to get the marshall attension if there looking the other way but as soon as the marshall runs towards it you should be on full brake until they have put you down.

I think generally the quality of marshalling is BAD, its something thats struck me since i've started racing again..
A lot of folks just seem to sit there thinking about the previous race they've just had rather than where they are now and being alert and ready to correct a car as soon as possible, a number of drivers rev the car to get marshalls attention though.. If you want to see how to be a good marshall watch Andy Fraser, he's the master.. I do try hard myself though.. Everyone should try harder and be more alert to what's hapening and where a car is likely to crash and be ready. We should give trophies/rewards or something for good marshalling..tricky one to penalise bad marshalling unless its blatent. |

James you should try micro thats worse. Craig harris is really good at marshalling He is like a coilled spring ready to pounce.

This is plenty acceptable and how it should be done. If a car has any throttle on while I marshal, I make myself heard by pretty much YELLING, "LAY OFF THE THROTTLE!"

Hm... Actually I have never thought about this. Good tip, I must say!
I will doubtless have this in mind next time when I am marshalling, and driving of course! It is silly to yell at someone when you do the same stupid thing yourself! ![]() |

It's the people that rev it even when you've seen it that annoys me, then even when they brake the front wheels are still spinning. If they rev it when im just about to pick it up i wait until they stop, if they rev it when i have it in my hand ill have a word afterwards.

when i raced nitro we reved it to get there attentionas you say then just put the brakes on,some times you have to blip the throttle to stop the engine stopping,if a car was reving the engine we would just leave it

I was suprised, but i had to marshal a car that did this in the A final at South Shields yesterday. I'm not going to name and shame him, but i thought the driver was above this sort of thing
![]() For some reason i picked it up though ![]() I think what Ashely said is acceptable though. |

If someone is revving the car when you need to marshall it, then don't touch it..... it could be the worlds championships, don't touch it guys, it'll burn for weeks and probably scar!!
At Oswestry, Chis Bowater crashed just before the loop on the last lap where I was marshalling, I could see his adrenalin was at peak and I was as quick as could be, but he applied full throttle a fraction too soon and a tyre caught my wrist slightly, only very slightly, and im sure Boggy didn't mean it as I know he's not like that, so I said nothing, but it left a slight mark which stung like a small burn.... it just shows how much the spinning tyres can hurt if the tyre is in full contact with skin. I get very frustrated when I crash, and I used to apply throttle in frustration at myself. I now wiggle my steering instead. Although to get somebodies attention I may give the throttle a blast but get on the brakes once seen. Chris |

As long as we all marshall as we'd like to be marshalled, then it'll be better. There are many who shout and are impatient, sometimes while the car is still rolling! yet as a marshall, puts no effort in and doesn't like to be shouted at for it. |

I am pleased to say I saw some good marshalling at Oswestry in the form of Andy Carter who has just returned to the scene. He clearly has not lost any of his driving skill as his "B" final demonstrates but he happened to be marshalling in front of me during a race I was watching and he was alert and ready to pounce on any car in difficulty every time they came past his spot.
I did think at the time - how good would this sport be if all marshals were like that! |
