Default Futaba 3gr or Core Rc's new Code systems

Guys and Gals,

Just wanted people's views on this question. I have an Etronix pulse EX3gpro system for both my 1:10 buggies and have had the (I now read common) hesitation and no response to stick inputs. I am now satisfied it's an issue with the system and it's ruined a few good looking races I've had. Now I see there is the new version of the core based system with a differant operating system and I have talked to users who have said its better now, but I an a bit unsure of it. I have been looking at the Futaba 3gr system and have heard of good reveiws about it, it's double the price and I will need two recivers aswell and am wondering if the extra money is worth spending as I want a reliable set up.

I'd appreciate people veiws and user opions.

Default Radio setup

The cheaper brands available are not necessarily 'nasty' but they are cheap for a reason, have seen faulty transmitters, receivers units that wont bind and receivers that stop working mid race. The Code, Etronix, Tamco etc all generally fall out of the same factory with different labels on.
If it lasts a year or two and packs up then chuck it and buy another but if you dont want the worry of 'is it going to work, is it not' then buy the Futaba 3GR, it is more expensive but quality comes at a cost.

The Futaba 3VCS is again more expensive but with more flexibility than the 3GR - it can take different modules made by different manufacturers so can run 27Mhz, 40Mhz, Futaba FAAST 2.4Ghz and also Spektrum 2.4Ghz so you can tailor what system you use to your pocket.

I have had my 3VCS for nearly 5 years, runs with a Spektrum module in the back and 3 cell Li-po for power. Never missed a beat so would expect the 3GR to be much the same.

Alternativley seek out an older well specced radio with all the toys you need that is stuck on 27Mhz or 40Mhz buy an FRSKY 2.4Ghz conversion kit and hey presto 2.4Ghz for cheap money !

I'd agree with the above !

Buy the best you can afford !

The Futaba 3GR is a good starter set and has more than enough settings to get you started
I would say though get the 2.4ghz version then you can use it with the FrSky TFR4 Receiver at £21 each ( these receivers are great value and very robust )

If you can spend a little more then get the 3GR's big brother the 3VCS, you can pick one up s/h for £150'ish, as posted above then you have all and more settings and the flexibility of going to FASST, Spektrum or other 3rd party 2.4ghz Modules

Like CrashBangWallop and Knighthawk, Futaba all the way. This is the best 2.4 Ghz system because it is bulletproof, has an excellent feel and can use the FrSky receivers that are cheap as chips and just as bulletproof as the Futaba system itself.

I use this system in a 12th car, which taxes any system and weeds out even the slightest fault in a radio. With the FrSky receiver I can't tell the difference to the Futaba receiver that costs over £100. It runs the HRS system for fast response, and it is smaller and lighter as well!

The Futaba wins over the equally excellent Sanwa system because of the receiver price (£80+) with no FrSky equivalent. The Futaba means you use all your hard-earned for the quality transmitter and the 2.4 Ghz module, and not on receivers as well. HTH

Default Lucky guy

Thanks for the info and I was going for the 3gr system, but my wife went shopping last Friday and turned up with the latest code system with 2 recivers and I've used it twice and so far so good. Let's hope it stays that way.

The futaba does feel nice in the hand, much better than the etronix, the sticks on the etronix are far too long in my opinion, i unscrewed them & cut down the threads so now it feels much better but is still not close to the futaba which will be coming my way soon
