Question 2wd buggy brushless set up

Hi guys

Had my first brushless outing off road today at Mercc. Used my Novak GTB out of my touring car with a Novak 6.5 Velociti motor geared at Novak's recommended FDR.

To fit the ESC in to my Losi XXX I had to whip the fan off and noted that the ESC was quite hot, given we are still in sub 10 degree temps am now worried come summer it will be overheating.

What ESC's do you guys use with brushless in your 2wd buggy. Have no probs parting with the cash for a system for my 2wd buggy but it seems the GTB is not too happy without the fan. Any suggestions for a compact alternative to fit in a 2wd buggy???

Kudders...

The nosram and lrp systems fit perfectly in a xxx and dont require a fan as they simply dont get hot in 2wd.

Its hot but not too hot to leave your finger on the speedo, 6.5 geared at 10.11.

I tell thee, enuff power, was a bit of a handful on the wet grass this morning getting the power down!

Try Tekin's R1 pro or Schulze Future series. I use them both with lipos and over gear my B4 in ambient temps of 33deg Celcius to track temps of 36deg Celcius. Not once a cut off.

Cheers!

What pinion/spur is that?

The GTB thermals at 200degrees F, and even then it only shuts down for a few seconds with no lasting damage. So it gets pretty hot. What I am saying is, there may be no need to even worry.

The options available to you, are check on the gearing (as on overgeared brushless is not as obvious due to the torque). Install a fan which you can attach to the chassis blowing accross the GTB, or open up the shell for ventilation, or its possible that what you think is hot is actually fine and it can be left as it is.

If you have a temp probe, let us know how hot it gets after a 5 minute race.

Chris

The Nosram and LRP ESC's don't need a fan even with fairly hot motors, I've run a 4.5 in my 2wd fanless and had no heat issues (just grip issues ).

I tried a Nosram 7.5 with the 12.5mm rotor at Kidderminster and really liked it. It was fast enough without being silly, created no heat, tires lasted ages and I was using around 800-900mAh per run

That's running 20/82.

I don't have a temp gun but hear what you say about my thoughts on hot and actual hot being two different things.

I want a set up for my XXX so I don't have to keep swapping kit from my TC5 to the XXX and from what you guys are saying, sounds like the Nosram Matrix (not the TC Spec) could be a sound bet.

I assume its OK to mix Nosram ESC with Novak motor.

I had thought about the Speed Passion as they do a 'low profile' version but there seem to be stock issues with the two standard models as is.

Am not sure the Tekin has been released here yet but I would be interested in that as I used to run Tekins off road 'back in the day' in my Cougar 2
