Cheers guys, all comments much appreciated. Just been trying to up the game a bit with the last few shells, and come up with a few little tweaks of my own, the bloodshot headlights being an example.
Must be working because the queue is getting longer! Any thoughts on a good detail brush guys? Been looking at the Iwata Kustom series, but feck!, they're not cheap are they!!! cheers Joo

Iwata are utterly brilliant mate, I bought my HP-B a long time ago, infact I think my Dad bought it for my 14th birthday so 24 years ago, I've not to buy a new nozzle ( cos I dropped it out the window cleaning it and despite searching the garden for 4 hours it didn't turn up, new needle cos I dropped it without the air cap on it and had it services one to replace the air valve after running it on the airline at college and getting a lot of metal filings in it

Cheer's, that's what I thought. As I said, my Iwata Eclipse SBS is a proper swiss army knife. I painted most of the large F15 jet with it, and do all my shells with it also. I've been through two needles and nozzles in approx 5 years of use, on both occasions damage due to hamfistedness beeing the cause.
There are times however, when I crave better atomisation and much finer, narrower fades. I think I might treat myself to one of the Kustom range ![]() cheers Joo

Just finished a Durango buggy for fellow Louth racer Simon Babb. Inspired by one of LarryG's colourschemes, it wasn't until I compared the two that I realised I'd missed the silver pinstriping. Bugger!!!
Ah well, a few decals will busy it up...

Second of a batch of three Marcus Vassmar inspired shells (well, I say inspired - they're a blatant copy! - if it ain't broke....)
Don't know if I can summon the energy to do the third. I love the design, but jeeeesus, it's a lot of work. 2 hours to draw up and cut the mask, then five hours to paint. Still, the recipient loves 'em! cheers J

AH yes nuclear powers present all sorts of problems to photograph. Outside in daylight seems to achieve the best results from my own tests but it's not easy to get any of it right.
I don't know what camera you're using but I can do this on my point and shoot and also my camera phone. Set the white balance, it makes a great difference to photo's. You might have to go through a few settings to get the correct one but the colours will come out better. And doing on a brighter background like some white card or paper or even a white sheet will help. |

I ingratiated myself upon my niece, who had a Canon 550D. but as you say, the white balance wasn't quite right, and the dining room table under 60w bulbs isn't an ideal studio..!
Looking to buy a Nikon D7000. It was a toss up between that or a Canon 5D. I preferred the latest Nikon lenses. So Nikon it shall be! The thick end of 2k for the body and latest AF zoom lens, but I do a lot of RC aircraft photography, and the occasional kit review so hopefully over time it will pay or itself... cheers J

Ah, if you've got an DSLR then it's much easier. Use custom white balance. Shoot again a white background, put shell in place, focus manually, remove shell, take photo of white background, set custom white balance and use the white photo you've just taken to do it, the camera will sort it out and make it better but indoors will still cause a colour difference.
D7000 is a really nice camera, my mate has one I've borrowed a few time, cracking piece of kit. You need good lenses to bring out it's full potential though. However I noticed you put about the Canon 5D which is full frame compared to the D7000 crop sensor, Nikon have just bought out a lower priced full frame camera, the D600, looks a great bit of kit, priced at 2k body only though, much cheaper than a 5D though ! Or get a used 5D mkII, cheaper now the MkIII have come out. Anyway, good painting as always sir, keep it up ! |

Cheers for the informed info re:camera, as always bud!
Here's a couple more I sorted this morning for a new oople acquaintance who bought a touring car shell off me a week or two ago. Thought I'd have a play with the dotty fade - not quite as easy as it would seem, as I found! Difficult to get the transition to solid without getting overpray beyond the dotty mask, wish I'd added pink to the front lozenge, just forgot it - no biggie, and too late to go back. Scraping off the white to re-do will just make more mess. Ah well, thats what stickers are for!!!! Hope he likes them. Not perfect, but tidy... I find these smaller (1/10) buggy shells very diffficult to work with, just no room to work...
