So in standard spec, 503 rear wheels are either pin or 12mm hex fitment, and front wheels are 10mm hex? Is 10mm hex the standard fitment for 4WD front wheels, and if not, do any manufacturers other than Tamiya make wheels that will fit? I think I read that front wheels for the b44.2 are the same?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am coming from a 201 buggy, so really have no clue as to what the 4WD buggies generally use, and don't want to buy wheels that won't fit.

In other related news, I saw that the price of the 503 at RCMart has shot up to $480 now! I am so glad I ordered mine a few days ago!

10mm B44.2 front wheels fit the TRF 4wd buggies... but you need to make sure that you have the wider of the two that they sell... the 503 comes with the correct ones.. the earlier 501x ones were a little thin and caused rubbing against the steering upright when using other than Tamiya Wheels

I'll find out in a in a day or two once it's built

Just pic'd up my TRF503 from CHAMP in Japan...

The Body of the 501x is a bit longer compared to the 511 in the nose area.... so you have room to shift the body a little bit.... I'm sure it will be close around the motor.. but since it works on the 511 without any issues.. I don't think a 7mm forward motor should cause a issue

here a few pic's of a 501x shell mounted on a TRF511 with chassis upgrade kit.

Dave, my/your 511 weighed 1776 grams three weeks ago.

I didn't drive well at that race, so no blame of car weight.

Is there any reason why the 503 wouldn't work well as a 2WD buggy? And has anyone tried running a 501/502/511 in 2WD?

The only reason I ask is that I have had a bit of 'buyer remorse' since ordering my 503 (which left Hong Kong today). All of my friends that I will be racing offroad with this year will be doing the 2WD class. I already have a TRF201 with a Vega chassis, and I do plan to buy the new version of the 201 when it is available, but that may be a few months away yet, and the 503 looks so good with the gear diffs and big bores. So I am thinking about trying it in 2WD, as I have read that many people have done the same with 4WD buggies from other manufacturers, particularly the XRay XB4.

I will be racing exclusively on astro, so the mid motor configuration shouldn't be a hinderance, as there are 2WD buggies like the XRay and Schumacher that are now in that configuration.

It's got to be worth a try at least?

We have run the 511 and the 502 in 2wd form, both cars worked ok without being anything special, but add the 201 front end and they both became very good, both versions were ran in saddle pack formation and the results have been pleasing, there will be a 502/201 in shorty layout in the not to distant future, that will be the Cobra KR,until then here are a couple of pics of the other versions we have been running.

12 would be smoother but I would try both... since the new front end has a higher kick up in the front

In respect of the caster blocks is the 10/12 degrees set in the caster block, so they give an extra 10/12 degrees caster, or are they set to give the 10/12 degrees caster overall, i.e. the caster built in works with the 501x kick up to give the final caster of 10/12 degrees?

If its set in the actual block, the 503 with 12 degrees kick up the final caster would be 22/24 degrees.

In recent pictures of the development cars, see Mark Rienhards cars at Reedy race, he was using the plastic caster block. Does the standard (plastic) caster block come with any built in caster or are they set at zero?

The carbon plastic ones that come with the TRF503 are set at 12* ... and then add that to the total kick up.. for the total

Thanks for the comparison. Might have to get the 12 degree ones for 502 as it has the 10 degree ones fitted.

I think some of the earlier plastic hubs were 10*.. not too sure but the comparison on TRF Racing UK pretty much sums it up
