Nice color combo Kristan. Perhaps try reducing your shadow color more and bumping the pressure up a tad. Try building the shadows up over several passes. When reduced that much it can be hard to see but a bit of paper or kitchen towel behind the shell will help see it.

You'll soon have the SHRCCC rostrum filled up mate

Thank you Jon. I was going the wrong way with the pressure then The thinner I went the lower I made the pressure. I'll try high next time.

Thanks

Try it on paper or something first so you can get an idea of it more. Then just transfer what you've learnt to doing it on the shell. Don't try and do it all in one go, gradual shading as Jon has mentioned will work perfectly.

On your first pass you can make it quite loose, then the more passes you do the closer to the body you can bring the airbrush, also control the paint more. The natural effect you get from this will give a shadow that is closer to the area you are shading and softer the further away it gets, like a real shadow.

Or you could mask it into the design and then just mist over some transparent colour that is suitable before you put the design down, this will give a very graphical effect and although not the soft 'photo real' type shadow it will be very effective !

Hey Chef, you just keep the work coming I think your skills are improving nicely.

one slight thing tho, if I was you I'd really take your time on the design of the flames (design whatever your putting on the body) I put a lot of time into preparing what the design will look like, a few designs down on paper and then a first light colour say bright green sharpie to draw the design on the shell.

Then I make sure I go round correcting any mistakes or lines I'm not happy with, for flames I would look no further than Larrys thread that guy is a masterclass in flame painting. I'd start by taking a few of his simple ones and making alterations to suit your style.

Hope that makes sence and it wasn't meant as a critism because your work really is coming along. Keep at it

Thank you Piggy D. I'm constantly trying to improve. I was sent this as a design

But I really would like my scalpal work to improve as some of the guys seem to have perfect cuts and equal with pin stripes.

All pointers are welcome.

Thanks Chef.

wow, thank you U1timate PigDog, I appreciate the compliment!!!!!

I like what you said about drawing on the paper, I am always drawing flames on paper to try to make them different, pointy, long and wavy, cartoon style, once in a while I doodle something I want to paint.

And Jon, that is exactly how I paint shadows, a large piece of white cardboard behind my work area to see the thinned out shadows build up, after a hundred or so, I know exactly how the shadow should look on the clear parts of the shell , lol

Chef, good job, practice and repetitve work makes you better and better
