anyone able to comment on the drop-off on the GRP's?
The drop off in performance was pretty minimal as you can guess from Tom's previous comments..
I ran the same set through qualifying and did my fastest run and lap times in round 4.... The car still felt really good on the tyres with no real loss in grip levels...
Bradders then ran my car for 7 mins in the time between Q and F so I bolted up a new set for the final...

As with any tyre there was an initial 'edge' to the tyre in the first few lap until the tyre settled down... there was almost no difference in lap times.

People did seem to think the tyre wore visually more, but the spike is designed to carry on working once the initial edge is gone.. this was the main thing that we looked at.. The spike profile... To keep the best grip level for longer, this will mean the average club racer will get more life out of his tyres....

again, nice to hear that Adam.

half the 'problem' with the schumacher tires was the fact you got such amazing performance for 5 mins then a sharp drop meant you had to keep going with new ones. (if you didn't want to loose out to others)

if these tires feel more linear in performance degradation then there would not be such a need for new rubber each round.

When money was tight, I used to use nail clippers on the spikes on schumacher tyres, to square the edges again to bring back a little grip!!

what adam has said is exactly the same with the 1/8th versions, they are still very grippy when well worn, fitting new ones doesnt make the car faster just a bit more edgey.
i think its the combination of the compound and the rough patterend carcass that helps with the forward drive of them

have you tried them on wet astro yet adam..my only gripe with the 8 ones was they didnt work too well on wet astro, maybe these will.

You wouldn't run Schuey Yellows in the wet so i wouldn't really expect these to work either?

If they're cheaper and work at least as well as Schuey Yellows it's a no brainer - if they last longer that's great but if they're cheper and are as good people will use them i'm sure.

The longer wear time appeals to me, even if they are exactly the same price. Does anyone know if they will be available in mini pin format. A tyre that works good on carpet with low wear would be a winner.

To be honest, i've always believed that if a Tyre works it will wear out.....

It would be great if tyres lasted for loads and loads of races but realistically i think the absolute most you can really ever expect to get out of a tyre (that's working) is about 4/5 races without the slightest loss in performance.... they will probably work a bit longer but you can't expect the performance not to drop as physically speaking it shouldn't really be possible if they're gripping?

I'm sure Nats are still the same if not worse as a few years ago, and realistically you were lucky to get more then 2 runs out of any tyre that was used, sometimes 1 run a set (anyone remember Ifmar pins at Kiddy.......).

I think if you can up this to a minimum of 3 runs out of a set of tyres that would still be a huge improvement but overall if they work, i think they will still wear out fairly quickly.

Yeah and on the Cat in 4wd we had to cut 2 rows off the front (outer) and one off the inner.

Was an absolute pain when you were doing an awesome run for 4m45s and then broke it - that was at least £20 worth of Tyres alone gone!

I would be interested to know how heavy they are compared to a Proline tire, a ballistic buggy and a schum mini. (comparing all rears)

if they are a bit heavier than a schum then they should jump a bit better?

I think this is a very good picture to show the differences (or similarities) between the yellow and GRP tires.

They are both new tires.

What a nice hand that chap has!

Terry kindly took that photo for me, little Ben had just glued up some new tyres and we were again appauled at the moulding quality, then comparred them to the conespikes which are perfect.

I've had tyres like that from Schumacher most of the summer and kept meaning to write to them to complain, never got round to it though. I hope this improvement in tyres from GRP means they pull their finger out!

PS

Over the course of the weekend the following names were invented for the tyres;
Coneheads,
The Great Pandinnis (said in a spoocky voice),
Walter Pandiani's

The good thing about these is that GRP will probably bring them out mounted on the most popular wheels (B4, XXX-CR, XX 4 ect) for little over £10 which these wheels may not be the best, for for people like me who only club race atm on a fairly tight budget it will be perfect

From the testing did anyone notice the wear rate of these new tyres, are they better lasting then the schum! I too believe that there should be more choice of tyre available it would also be nice to see the price lowered quite a bit too, I understand that the cost of the moulds are high but surly schum has made plenty of profit from us even after replacing the moulds exec!
