dan your boost idea does work well with stock motors as they dont have the punch of a 7.5 but we have found that once you move to a 8.5 and above that northy and rogers ideas are what most people run with to keep the motor as smooth as possible and stop the possibility of coming on boost when feathering through a turn or sweeper in off road (onroad has a whole new set of rules
for this reason we only run turbo on full throttle activation normally without delay and have it kick in as early as possible so it ramps through the whole range, this helps keep all that extra power as managable as possible

Thanks for all the information as I had a go with both today and I thought the turbo only felt the best at Southports indoor astro track

usual scenario

signal = white / orange
positive = red
negative = black /brown

red positive is almost always centre pin (that way if you plug it in wrong way round by mistake it wont blow anything up) exceptions early KO rx's (i mean late 80's early 90's stuff

Sorry if this as a dumb question but I am trying to get my head round what does / doesn't do what when it comes to the settings.
Am I correct in thinking that neither boost nor turbo will change the ultimate top speed (I presume only a change in gear ratio or the KV/RPM rating of the motor) they just change the way it gets to that maximum RPM?

They sure influence your "top" RPM... and therefor your top speed as well.

Both change the top speed, massively!

So for instance, if it the car reaches top speed half way down the straight but it's quite nice to drive on the slower parts of the track should I add a little turbo or should I add boost that starts at about 50% of max RPM?

Turbo can be set to kick in and give additive timing advance at full throttle. If you are not at full throttle, then its not added, so the car remains tame at lower speeds.

Boost is added at set RPM points, so timing ramps up from start RPM and is fully applied at end RPM setting. This is applied at all throttle points (so long as the motor is in the RPM range), so it can quickly become a handful if you over do the setting.

in that case you would have to add turbo.

It will be for running a lrp x12 oct wind 6.5t motor if that makes any difference.
Thanks Darren
Sorry to be replying to an old post but after reading the goodness of the 120a I was hopeful for their 150A ( to be used in 1/8th truggy). Well after reading this thread ...

http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/17...toro-150a-esc/

I won't be bothering.

I'd give some leeway for perhaps poor programming, poor mismatch of equipment but no good news in that thread.

Shame as the 120A appears an excellent piece of kit

I am really pleased with it for the money although the range of adjustments is a bit bewildering for a newbie/numpty. In fairness I am only running a 10.5T motor with it with a little turbo so can't comment on how it performs with more extreme settings.

strange, I read that and thought, "sounds like it'll just need careful looking after and programming when I first set it up"

We will see!

(Thought the guy with the 3.5t and 150a ESC in a B44 was a wtf moment)

It looks to be similar. you'll need the USB interface or USB program box as well.

bashers on a bashers forum...
He admitted himself he didn't understand the software. he had it set to 1S voltage cut off when he was using 4S. I wouldn't take that as how everyones experience will be. He seemed cheesed off that he had to solder, ffs. If you want it all done for you, pay the price to get it done. not look for something "cheap" then moan because it doesn't meet your expectations.
