Default We need a Front Shock tower to match the Rear

I was hoping we could start a petition for Atomic Carbon to create a carbon fiber -front shock tower- for the DB-01 Durga / Baldre to match their rear carbon fiber tower.

Their rear tower is awesome and has basically become a requirement for anyone upgrading to the TRF Aerated Shock Kit (for proper rear shock travel with no limiters).

I have asked Jonathan at Atomic Carbon, but he said that he has no plans to make a front tower for the DB-01..

Is it possible we could convince Jonathan if we had enough DB-01 racers ready to buy one?? Kind of the same way the rear tower was developed??

Hello,

I missed the first petition for the rear carbon shock tower.
I will not miss this one. Count me in!

Mattia.

Why the need for a carbon front tower (other than to match the looks of the rear one)? Geometrically the stock tower is fine and doesn't suffer the problem the rear tower had of being too "low" for the shocks.

You're spot on there Spoolio The whole reason behind getting a rear made up was to allow the use of the TRF shocks without having to run internal limiters in them.

The front tower doesn't have this problem and the TRF shocks work perfectly well as a direct replacement for the kit items.

Getting a front made would just be for the "bling" factor. I did approach AC about this just after the rear was sent out, but then decided better of it - it just isn't needed.

By all means, get together and approach Jonathan with numbers etc. and see if it is economical for him to do it but I won't be getting one as I don't feel the need. Also bear in mind that it was actually quite a bit of work organising everything (a lot more than I was expecting).

The "bling" factor is part of the motivation to have an Atomic Carbon front tower to match the rear.. Besides the bling, I like how much easier it is to mount and remove the shocks from a carbon fiber tower - just one threaded nut instead of removing an entire screw.. The carbon fiber towers also allow the shocks to have a little more play at the top which is also a bonus for easy unrestriced shock action.

I'm still hoping we can convince Jonathan to make a front tower. I would still love to have one

i4n - can you give me any advice on what we need to approach Jonathan with a proposal? How many buyers would be required to make it worth his time and effort? Thanks.

Dan

Hi,

I have emailed Jonathan of Atomic Carbon asking for the rear shock tower and if he was going to make the front one.

He replied that the front shock tower for the db01 is in the works and hopefully should be ready in a few weeks time.

Mattia.

Whoa! Thats great news.. I have been sick for the past week which is why I haven't updated the forums..

I was just getting back to recruit potential buyers before contacting Jonathan.. If he is making the front tower, then I am ready to buy

I should have a proto ready early next week for testing, once i have a bit of feedback i will let you guys know. Btw the proto front tower is from 5mm carbon fibre, as it seems it takes a lot of abuse

I dunno, 5mm will go from snapping the tower to snapping the gearbox top, the thickness of the rear tower, is ample.

If your at Talywain, John, I will test it!!

Tested the atomic carbon front tower today and believe me i went all out to test it just to make sure as i know some of you are concerned about breaking the gearbox top, well i gave the car more abuse today than most of you will all season and no problems at all passed every test

get your orders in to old timer if you race the car you know you go to have 1

thanks jonathan for another quality product

Hi,

I received the tamiya DB01 front and rear shock towers this morning.
I've just finished assembling them. They are beautiful and fit & finish is perfect. They look really tough.

Just one thing, I had to put 8mm of spacers in the rear shock tower to set the shocks at the right angle. Is this correct? Isn't the screw to long and easy to bend/break?

Cannot wait to try them!

Mattia.

They can bend, but that is cause unless you use a stepped shock mount, to move the top forward, there isn't much you can do.

Hi

I had front and rear fitted to my Baldre but shattered the front this afternoon (First drive with them fitted), gutted it did a cart wheel after a bad landing then snap!

Don`t think i`ll by another tho, don`t think its strong enough tbh , well on the front anyway the rear seems awesome tho love the design, looks and is holding up well.

Andy

Dude,

As I said in post 8 and Steve backed me up in post 9 of this thread http://www.oople.com/forums/showthre...594#post266594 you have 3 Racing towers fitted (or snapped), not the Atomic Carbon ones.

These are a completely different kettle of fish, my DB-01 has clipped a track marker at full speed and cartwheeled its way down 70% of the track and nothing has happened to the rear tower (Steve [aka DCM] snapped his 3 Racing tower when a Gnat breathed on it ).

not to worry dude, I bought them, and binned them in the end, as they were too thin and weak.
